UPDATED 4:00 pm A lockdown at Canberra Grammar School has been lifted after a threatening email was sent to the school this morning.
ACT Policing said they locked down the Red Hill school at around 10:45 am as a precaution while officers conducted a search of the grounds.
A text message was sent out just before 11:00 am this morning notifying parents of the lockdown and telling them not to attend the school. The lockdown was lifted at around 12:30 pm.
Head of the school, Justin Garrick, has thanked staff and students for their co-operation and patience.
“Lockdown procedures were applied at both Red Hill and Northside to prevent any unnecessary movement around the campuses in order to allow Police to assess for any concerns,” he said in a statement.
“We recognise that the situation was worrying for all concerned, and that some strong feelings may emerge afterwards as a consequence. Please be mindful of the need to talk sensitively with your children.
“School Counsellors and pastoral care staff are available as normal if need be.”
Police are investigating the incident.
