Canberra’s leading training institutions and employers have been recognised at the ACT Training Awards.
The virtual, COVID-safe event was an opportunity to highlight the innovation, outstanding achievements, and commitment of organisations and individuals in the ACT vocational education and training (VET) sector. Winners in some categories will go on to compete for national recognition at the Australian Training Awards.
This year, among those recognised, were Communities@Work, the Canberra Institute of Technology, and the Academy of Interactive Entertainment.
Communities@Work won the ACT Large Employer of the Year award for the second year in a row, further recognising their demonstrated commitment to training their employees, and encouraging and assisting them in their employment-related development.
Communities@Work CEO Lee Maiden said she believes investing in her employees is crucial to the performance and social impact of the organisation, and to their ability to deliver the best quality, affordable, innovative and flexible services they offer to the Canberra community to deliver positive outcomes.
“We are elated to have been recognised as the ACT Large Employer of the Year for the second year in a row,” said Ms Maiden.
“Communities@Work has a strong and ongoing commitment to developing the best people, which means a highly skilled and qualified team. To be an employer of choice, we need to continually support and invest in our people,” she said.
Communities@Work is Canberra’s largest not-for-profit community organisation and children’s services provider, and an Early Education and Care training provider.

The ACT Small Training Provider of the Year recognises a registered training organisation that offers a specific range of training products and services and demonstrates excellence and high-level performance in all aspects of vocational education and training. This year the Academy of Interactive Entertainment won the award.
Head of school for the Canberra and Online Campus Lea Michael said she was very pleased to receive the award, and was looking forward to the online national event in November.
“We’ve won the ACT Award for Small Training Provider of the Year a few times, but only won the national award once,” said Mrs Michael. “We’re looking forward to it.”
The ACT Large Training Provider of the Year was awarded to the Canberra Institute of Technology, recognising their offering of a broad range of training products and services and demonstrating excellence and high-level performance in all aspects of vocational education and training.
