Another Servo Closes?

that place used to get a lot of business from russell office types.

i dont believe its due to lack of profit – there must be some other reason.

i suspect realising profit from the land value may be tempting the owner.

The Shell at Campbell servo has finished up too. Previously it had a sign for the last 4 weeks (since the hail storm) saying it was “closed due to damage”. Yeah right I thought.

Sure enough the workman have removed all the Shell signage and it’s surrounded by fencing.

Still, if they replace it with a pub like Edgars or Debacle I won’t complain.

paperboy: The same could be said of Ainslie though (substituting a pub and clothes shop for the tiling shop) but it hasn’t had a servo for years.

Higgins closure, if that’s what it is, would be interesting because it’s a fairly vibrant shopping centre that seems to be quite successful. Newsagent, chemist, supermarket, doctors, hairdresser, takeaway, even a tiling shop.

I’ve wondered before what it is that’s changed since the mid 80’s that made it become uneconomic to run servos at the suburban shops like Pearce, Torrens, Ainslie etc.

regulation recently enacted means ost small servos will be goen soon.

i noticed when driving through country vic late last year that in many small towns there are no servos anymore.

between castlemaine and maryborough there used to be 2 towns with servos – now there are none.

im sure this is the same throughout the rest of the commonwealth.

if i could be bothered, id google some stats.

two other major servos in kippax surely make competition difficult

Maybe they decided not to be like all the other ACT petrol stations and increase their prices by 7c every PS Payday and got driven out of business
