Not sure how widely known this is, but we were eating dinner tonight at our favourite Portia’s Place and Portia told us that she was moving on in 3 weeks time. She apparently had sold the place and was moving on to new challenges (I assume the restaurant will continue much along the same). Obviously she was quite emotional about it (as were we as its been one of our favourites) and she had been there for 25 years. To us, it’s been our favourite takeaway, our favourite Friday meeting place, and on occasion, the chance to people watch. It’s a landmark of the Canberra restaurant scene, being nationally and world famous for both her food and clientele. The political events that have taken place at this restaurant would fill a history book or two.
Portia, you’ll be sorely missed. My family and I wish you all the best for whatever you choose to do.
