No small special fried rice in Canberra?

I am a single bloke who loves chinese food but for some reason all the restaurants/takeaway/home delivery places do not make a small special fried rice.

They only make a small fried rice.

If you want special fried rice you have to buy the large one.

Does anyone know of any places around Woden that have small special fried rice?

Everyone knows it’s St. Benard. If you are getting Garfield then you’re being ripped off.

With some Chinese restaurants, you’re lucky to even get spring onion in your SFR, never mind purebred!

Was this in the CONC’s agenda? Shoulda been. Hey JOOLIAR! Where’s me LARGE speccy fried rice?! Bloody lefties.

BTW for all the OP-smashers, I don’t see a difference between this and 10e6 people telling a Getz driver that they were s***. Welcome to them internets.

Thankyou Jethro but it is a bit far away for me.

Lao Thai at Kippax does a fried rice in green or red curry paste. That’s pretty special.

If youre talking about the Two Sisters Lao Thai, I believe that shop has moved from Kippax to Kambah. In Kippax they were struggling to make much business. At Kambah, they seem to be doing much better. Their head store, is actually located in Dickson, approx between KFC and the tradies.

No. It’s called Lao Thai something. I had it last night so this one is definitely still at Kippax.

Thankyou for all the suggestions from the majority of you out there. As for all the other ones. Why did you bother even commenting? It was an easy enough question.

Because some of them were damn funny and we all needed a laugh. Ben_Dover had me in stitches for hours.

Oh, I am not Johnboy in disguise.

What the bloody hell is special fried rice?!

Fried rice, extra msg, heavy on the cat, additional E number E102, C.I. 19140, FD&C Yellow 5, reheated especially for you in a traditional microwave.

So there’s the solution. Feed the unwanted portion to your dog, who will think you finally saw the light and killed the cat yourself. You do have a dog don’t you? If not, why not?

If you think the crap that gets pumped out of Chinese restaurants is the kind of food the Chinese population eat, it might be time to jump on a plane and see the world.

I dunno about that, that Buddha chappie ate a lot of rice and he was as fat-as.

Ah! Extra cat. That is pretty special.

I didn’t think there was one recipe for special fried rice or normal fried rice, so even if somewhere sold a small, what if the flavour wasn’t as good as the shop nthat only sells large 🙂

Go to Kenny’s Best BBQ and Noodle House in Dickson. They do a combination fried rice (no idea if it comes in small though). It has pork, duck, prawns and chicken. Plus veggies. And rice thrown in of course. DELICIOUS!

A terrible and endightment on our city. How can we hold our head up as a national capital, and a world leader, when the rights of this minority are trampled on here. I suggest a judicial enquiry, and working party of cross benchers at fed level, and a police investigation, (supported by Customs and Excise and the health department.)

At a conference between the feminist league, fathers for justice, One Nation, The Australian Communist Party, Family First and the Gay and Lesbian association of Aus, reached agreement on putting forward a united front to condemn this injustice

I’m setting up a support group for victims affected by this, once the website is up and running I’ll be accepting pay-pal donations to support the cause. Please, give all you can, you know your conscience will be better for it.

I’ve written to Angry Anderson and he has agreed to write a charity single. I’m getting AC/DC, Cold Chisel and Midnight Oil (inc Garrett) to play the Opera house for “Spesh Day 2012.”
The psychological impact of this deprivation on the psych of young single men has been acknowledged by “Beyond Blue” and the national council of Psychiatrists. It has now been entered into the DSM IV.

Protests and a convoy have been arranged for 24/12/11 on what will be known from now on as “Single Portion Day”. I’m not one for violence, but i find it hard to condemn n those who are talking about burning down their local Chinese, and the “Single Portion Liberation Army”, will not be castigated by this man.

The Chinese embassy should be put on notice to quit Canberra if they do not intervene on our behalf.

Bahahahahahhahaha….GOLD!!!!

If it’s brown, not fried and hasn’t had ‘special’ added to it.

Truth has been spoken.

MTFU and eat a large.

Get some spring rolls and beef with veges to go with it.

Make your own…it’s not hard, and will save on all the plastic packaging you must accrue. Might even save you money in the long run.

Buy a freezer and freeze the other half?

Those pagagings are very handy for using later.

Whenever I order Chinese, I get a minimum of 2 meals out of it. It microwaves nicely (except for sweet & sour pork, honey prawns etc. I suppose).

What makes a fried rice ‘special’ anyway?

Lao Thai at Kippax does a fried rice in green or red curry paste. That’s pretty special.

Hopefully your quest for a small special fried rice is fruitful, but don’t waste the journey just on that alone, make sure you order the one spring roll, the single garlic prawn and the one lychee for dessert- what a feast!

Dude, make your own.

Ask one of the staff at the Chinese takeaways if they’d like to come home with you to share your large special fried rice.

You just never know; you might find yourself a friend for life!

OH. MY. GOD !

There is usually less than $1 difference between a small and a large at most places.

Buy the large and have it for lunch the next day…

Please don’t come back crying to us the one time you buy a small and don’t have enough to fed you.

Update from Sun Doo. They do do a small normal fried rice. They don’t do a small special fried rice but I’m guessing that they would do one for you if you asked nicely. Price for the large is $6.50.

The deep fried duck in: sweet and sour, lemon or plum sauce is $13.00. It is one of the truly stand out dishes of Australian Chinese Cuisine I have had. I would have expected it in Dubbo or Wagga. To find it in Canberra is a real surprise.

And for the record I think you should just eat the large serve of rice.

Actually I think its time to shut this whole internet thingie down. We have a winner. Completely.

There is no way anyone anywhere can ever post anything better than this. Ever.

Get married or adopt some starving kids. Then your food will match your family.

I think Sun Doo in Duffy might but don’t quote me on it.

What, like that ^^^

Best way to find out if they do… drink all the beer in your fridge, then ring up a taxi and ask them to go and order it for you, while it’s cooking get them to pick you up another six pack and then drive the lot to your place! Tell the taxi driver he can have half the rice and one of your beers if the take away only does large.

Special fried rice tastes better when it’s delivered with beer by taxi.

Excuse me Rioters, metrosexual male coming through…

OP should MTFU and get himself a wok, an apron, and a cookbook.

Welcome to 2011.

OP’s name is “justjbhere”

Best. RA. Post. Ever.

Chinese Kitchen next to Nando’s

Real Men order large everythings. It’s a scientifically proven fact.

cook shops does. Free delivery over a certain $ I think

bhhhaaaaaahhh

man up and eat more imo.

Rice is good for you, just get a large and eat the rest the next day?

My guess is that its hard to make things in small sizes, theres alot of things to go in for only a small serve.

Some might suggest to find a Mrs Justjbhere, but thats very much more expensive!

#firstworldproblems

I think Sun Doo in Duffy might but don’t quote me on it. They are worth going to for the authentic Australia Chinese food. No one does a better deep fried roast duck covered with sweet and sour sauce.
