Well let’s face it if you’re being tasered by the Police, you’re probably guilty of a crime anyway. 😉

If the person who is shocked has a heart condition, and in partcular if they have a pace maker or have recently had a heat attack, then a Taser does have an increased risk of causing adverse health effects including heart attack and death. I don’t know how much the chance increase, I guess that’s case by case. The jury is still out, on how much the risk is increased. But I would think the chance would be less than that of someone who is allergic to oleoresin capsicum having a serious reaction to Capcicum spray. Or an officer accidently striking a person with a baton in the nuts, chest of head by accident.

There is however a confirmed risk that the electrodes on a Taser will ignite flamable substances such as alcohol and solvents. So Mr Tipsy McStagger and his paint sniffing buddys could be in trouble.

I thought there was still concern with regard to Tasers and heart attacks? I haven’t read anything lately so my info may be way out of date.

Personally, I would prefer a Taser. I hear the effect is not much wore than a strong electric fence if you get zapped once and that the feeling afterwards, which is a mild tingling and weakness of joints, lasts only a few minutes. Up to ten and usually five.
Pepper Spray on the other hand can cause perminent eye damage in rare cases, and the irritation lasts for much more than 10 minutes. 30 or more. Can anyone confirm these figurs from experience?
