Territory And Municipal Services have the wonderful news that they’re teaching the public to keep backyard bees:

See a demonstration hive, taste some honey and learn all about keeping your own backyard bees at Kippax Library this Tuesday 15 November 2011.

“Come along and learn about backyard beekeeping in Canberra, including the basic fundamentals of beekeeping like hives, diseases and the hierarchy of the bee family,” said Vanessa Little, Director of Libraries ACT.

“Learn about the equipment you will need to get started on keeping your own bees.

“There will be an opportunity to ask questions, see a demonstration hive and taste some honey.”

Oh man, I would love to go, but am busy 🙁 I hope they get a good turn-out, I worry about the future of bees.

If I set up a hive in the back yard, will they become less interested in getting inside my house?

Twice in the last fortnight they’ve taken a keen interest in something, heading in and out of vents on the walls and some of them actually got inside through god-knows-where. A liberal application of Mortein to the vents discouraged them.

I once saw a title in a bookshop – ‘Beekeeping for Dummies’.

It sounded like an accident waiting to happen.

AHHHHH! BEEEEEEZZZZ!
