The three people killed in Sunday afternoon’s horror smash on Coppins Crossing Road in Whitlam were tourists from Bangladesh.
ACT Policing said today they were a 61-year-old man, a 54-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man.
All three were Bangladeshi nationals in Australia on tourist visas.
They were all in the one car, a red Toyota Yaris hatchback which collided with a white Toyota van at about 2:45 pm just south of Hazel Hawke Avenue.
Police said the hatchback was travelling south, down the hill.
The driver survived and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the white van was also taken to hospital.
Police would not speculate on the cause or circumstances of the accident but repeated warnings to drivers not to speed.
They believe that other drivers in the area may have dashcam footage that could assist them in their inquiries.
The investigation is ongoing, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The accident brought to 17 the number of people who have died on Canberra’s roads this year.
The ACT has endured a horror patch on its roads, with an e-scooter rider killed in a collision on Drakeford Drive in Kambah on 26 September, and two teenage passengers were killed when a Toyota sedan left the Monaro Highway and crashed into a tree early on 9 October.
