Today we went to Latham playing fields to do some cricket practice in the nets with the kids.
All was well, style improving etc., when I noticed near the playing pitch there were some unusual lumps of something. I jogged over to investigate and was confronted with long “divots” in the turf and strips of grass laying in piles next to the pitch.
Some idiot has gone and done burnouts with a car all over the field!
Now this ground is not only used for practice, but also for games in many grades of local cricket and other sports as well. What’s the bet when a complaint is made to local government to get it fixed, they close down the ground considering the amount of damage done.
With Kippax also closed for refurbishment, Holt and Macgregor playing fields unplayable due to lack of proper maintenance [not to mention the poor quality of their nets], where is west Belconnen to train?
Scullin is the only ground I know of that’s left nearby. Incidentally, is it just me or do all the “neighborhood ovals” look miserable compared to the district playing fields?
The morons who trashed this ground will never get caught, but I hope karma catches up with them and sends them walking.
