Three years after Jyle Molloy Murphy died in Pialligo, his family has begged for those with any information to come forward.
On 27 February 2022, the 28-year-old Queanbeyan man was picked up in a dark-coloured sedan after walking home along Morshead Drive following an event.
He was dropped off shortly after and was struck by a car while walking along Pialligo Avenue at around 11 pm.
A review of CCTV footage also identified a white Toyota 4WD that was in the area.
On Thursday (27 February), Jyle’s mother, Vicki, said her son was the “always fun [and] the life of the party” who “loved his family so much”.
“We’re all so broken. We need people to speak up and help us give Jyle the justice he deserves,” she said tearfully.
“I fight a battle every single day and there’s someone out there that knows something. Just please speak up.”
Vicki said she and her family are “not going to stop fighting until we get the answers” about what happened to Jyle.
To coincide with the third anniversary of his death, ACT Policing has installed bollards along Pialligo Avenue to raise awareness about Jyle.
“If there is someone out there who knows what happened, I would urge that they come forward and speak to us,” Sergeant Will Stevenson from ACT Policing’s Major Collision Team said.
Police are asking for the occupants of the dark sedan and the white 4WD to speak with police.

Police are also asking for any visitors to the Territory on the night of Jyle’s death to come forward.
The Red Hot Summer Tour concert had finished earlier in the evening, and police believe interstate visitors may have left Canberra via Pialligo Avenue.
While officers had already spoken to “many people” in their investigation, he encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
“We have to keep all our options open – this is why we’re renewing our call on behalf of the family and ourselves as investigators to get that truth, to get that investigation,” he said.
Sergeant Stevenson said the focus of their investigation was now on “the whos and the whys” around Jyle’s death.
For officers, even small pieces of information could be helpful as they continue investigating.
“There are many stories out there, but there’s only one truth, and this is why we get every single facet of what the story is, so we can piece that together and find the truth,” he said.
Anyone with information who could assist the investigation into Jyle’s death is urged to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000 or by visiting Crime Stoppers ACT. Please quote 7045713. Information can be provided anonymously.
