A big thankyou to Summernats

Just a quick note to say how much we appreciated dealing with Summernats media people DBC Management in our unsuccessful bid for media accreditation.

The courtesy and professionalism shown more than made up for the disappointment of their eventual decision. Furthermore RiotACT deeply appreciates being informed of that decision in a timely manner.

(no this isn’t some pissy swipe, it’s a note of genuine appreciation)

Also by not accrediting us we’re now free to hang around and report on what goes on after dark. Fun Fun Fun!

Any suggestions from our vastly experienced readership as to what we should be seeing and doing?

Summernats would eat SGS alive!
Hell, Summernats would eat me alive.

Well, it’s always a good weekend to dash out to Fyshwick for personal supplies – a lot of shops have discounts for Summernats weekend.

Allegedly.

Me too I stock up Meguiars products which are otherwise hard to find. Not going this year though.

You could get some pics of the petrified ‘entertainers’. Someone I know was sent there to do puppet shows once and is still scarred for life.

i wonder if sgs will attend to compile a report, or just whinge about summernats as it disrupts his cardigan deliverys.

summernats has become way more civilised in the last 6 or 7 years.

the heavy promotion of friday as family day helps moderate the more primal boganish acts – hey even bogans understand the deal.

as saturday drags on it becomes more fun.

i go for the cars and aftermarket trade stands.

everything else is a bonus.

Cheers mate, It was in response to a work thing, loosely relatesd around impressions such as this

Actually a few years ago we never had this sort of problem. (we had Summernats accreditation in 2003 IIRC)

There are two possible reasons why this has changed as far as I can tell.

1) World+dog now has a little read blog and is trying to get media accreditation, easier to say no to all of them rather than figure out which ones are worthwhile.

2) Every opinion ever voiced by anyone on here is taken to heart and the recipients attribute it to site management (because otherwise we’d have deleted it to spare their feelings?). So as the readership has grown we’re now thought of as being overwhelmingly negative and likely to not be a source of good publicity.

Possibly it’s a little of column A and a little of column B.

Frankly it doesn’t worry me too much, they’re the ones missing out.

Random question JB,

Have you guys experienced any dramas with the percieved notion that Bloggers (i.e. RA, not Concat,is seen as a blog) aren’t actually considered as journalists?

Cool. Down with Stanhope! Lets coup!

Thumper – can you drive one of these beasts – Ill stand in the hatch with my toughest “Corporal Punishment” poses on while we roll up to the lodge 🙂

Check out the shanty town that springs up on the northern end of EPIC, after the sun goes down. Went and hung there with a mate a few years back, and there were many drunken shenanigans (not by us, by the bogans camping). This included things like chicks inside cars having their norks grabbed by guys through open windows, burnouts that ended in slides into the crowd, burnouts that ended up in the gravel (spraying the crowd), some fights, lots of shouting, and generally a very boganish time.

Funny to watch, but be careful. This is NOT a family event.

try the powered camping sites near the location of the regular farmers market area.

I am pretty stocky and muscular, built like a minature american wrestler – and could hold my own should I have to (no fights since 1992) – but whenever I worked a late night shift – I had to get my boss (Turkish ex bodybuilder) to escort me to the staff parking area.

I am sure there is unreported regular drunken violence, attempted rapes, actual rapes and sexual assaults – but hay thats just part of the summernats experience.

I wont be missing anything by not working there this year. Maybe 6 or so hundred – but Ill be in sunny Victoria – cant wait.

I think you need an attendants or staff pass to get into this area though.

Our Natalie should be able to sneak you in as an army rep.

When the wimin expose their breast shots: especially on family day. Just remember to wave your hand in the air and any passing by chic riding in the back of a car will oblige. Ahh the memories. And is that not why many of the bogans go there anyway? They are advertising that they will have a wet T-shirt contest.

Also I really am hoping that the M1 drives over a few cars?

A few pictures of non-amused security guards?

Army chics in bikinies drapped over the M1 (OK so I go back to the tank a lot…the fantasies).
