Chief Minister Gallagher has announced she’s going to build a CIT campus in Tuggeranong if she’s re-elected:

if re-elected ACT Labor will build a new $7.5 million CIT Tuggeranong Learning Centre.

The construction of a new CIT learning campus in the Tuggeranong Valley will make sure that students have access to the latest in VET teaching and learning close to where they live.

So on the one hand, we have a party willing to expand TAFE in the ACT and on the other, a party that has omitted it entirely from their $3.6 billion dollar education spending proposals for the next four years. (Current education budget is around $4 billion in the ACT for this period, including CIT)

Given the attitudes of their colleagues in NSW and Victoria to TAFE, it’s hard not to be cynical about the Libs claims that they will continue to support CIT in this time.

The Learning Centre isn’t a full CIT. A full CIT is what Tuggers has needed for ages.

Er, read for the true agenda here, folks.

A Tuggers CIT sited on cheap, cheap land will free up megamillions worth of Reid campus land for sale and development – because there will be a convenient, made-up excuse that “city area is ageing, so we need to go where the youth is”. (When in fact, of course, Tuggeranong is ageing apace).

As always, Katie Gallagher’s main game is housing development, hand in glove with Snow types.

the one currently at tuggeranong is small and is more a CIT art centre small gallery and a stage.

A full size one in Tuggers would be good.

another new one?

or a new version of the one already there… There is a CIT learning centre at tuggeranong. It’s just next to Kentucky chooks.

That’s what I thought. But maybe they sold that off…i very vaguely remember something about it being a gallery or something now. So it seems like they built a CIT, decided it was a waste of time and repurposed it and are now building it again…

I didn’t think there was any available land left at the Hyperdome. They must be thinking of building it on a carpark or parkland near the lake.
