A little christmas cheer for you with the news Canberra is getting a comedy festival next year:

The festival will run from 19th March – 23rd March 2013, opening with an All-Star Comedy Gala on the 19th of March, featuring short sets of all the festival’s best comedians plus a special international headliner in critically acclaimed UK comedian Steve Hughes. The festival will then hold host to 25 more stand-up comedy shows over the next four days, including international superstar Stephen K Amos.

Stephen K Amos (Good News Week, Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala, The Great Debate, Spicks and Specks, Thank God You’re Here) will be appearing for two nights only in his first ever Canberra shows. Festival Director Timothy Duck says of the international comedy sensation, “For our first ever festival, we are delighted to have Stephen K Amos bringing world class comedy to Canberra. He is an exciting comedian that always delivers brilliant shows, and Canberrans should grab this opportunity to see up live! ”

ANU Arts Centre and The Civic Pub will be the primary venues for the Canberra Comedy Festival, with shows running each night from 7pm to 10:30 pm. The full program will be announced on January 10th 2013 with many more internationally acclaimed Australian comedians to be announced.

There’s a website to keep your eyes on.

Makes a change for the clowns in the assembly to be supporting comedy, rather than producing it.

It will be interesting to see whether any female comedians make the cut.

I am on the creative team for the Canberra Comedy Festival and can definitely confirm that there will be plenty of female comedians on the line-up, which we will announce on January 10th, keep in touch via http://www.canberracomedyfestival.com.au!

One lady in particular is, gender aside, one of the best comedians in the business and we are extremely excited to have her on board!

Sexism, or do you agree with the idea that very few women are funny?

Long bow there you’re drawing.

Perhaps we could incorporate this comedy festival with a few live crosses to question time at parliament house or the legislative assembly
