A comment worth reading on the Downer murders

johnboy 29 September 2008 35

Sometimes we get a comment made on a story which deserves a wider audience.

Here’s one by Donna33 which certainly fits that bill on the subject of the Downer double murder:

Scott always wanted to be known as notorius. Well, hes reached a higher level now. And such a shame that a talented, good looking and clever person could end up like this monster he has become. I lived with Scott for 4 years and it makes me sick to think he has [allegedly] killed Marylins beautiful daughter Julie whom I also knew. I really hope he gets punished for his [alleged] crime.

Jeff, you have resurrected 3 separate threads, that had lain dormant for 2 weeks, to say “stop commenting on this”?

Ye gods.

Hi all,

What a beautiful message left in the Canberra times from the victims families,
after all the readings on this site I thought it would be nice to close the
comments and end it with the acknowledgment in today’s paper, may Julie & Straun
rest in peace & I am sure everyone would agree it would be nice to leave all comments now as both these families that remain have a hard road ahead of them. They are available online to see in the Canberra times.

I’m just grateful I never knew Scott ….

BusyButBored BusyButBored 2:38 pm 30 Sep 08

I just never knew Scott as a monster so am interested in the full story once it comes out. Nobody deserves to be murdered though.

Granny Granny 2:33 pm 30 Sep 08

Life is very unjust at times. I am sorry for your loss.

BusyButBored BusyButBored 2:26 pm 30 Sep 08

albeit a very small cell I imagine.

Donna33 Donna33 2:22 pm 30 Sep 08

Nah Granny. The only thing im upset about is that the waste of space called Scott is still walking around.

Granny Granny 2:00 pm 30 Sep 08

The RiotFiles ….

Aurelius Aurelius 1:55 pm 30 Sep 08

Granny, if we re-wrote history that way, then Binnoski would attain mythical status for having vanished. Then she’d be like Richie & Joanie Cunningham’s big brother whose name escapes me.
Or we’d end up with conspiracy theories for decades to come. And then Kramer & Johnboy would be accused of the Kennedy assassination.

Granny Granny 1:50 pm 30 Sep 08

I think erasing the discussion from history and pretending it didn’t happen would be kind of weird.

Aurelius Aurelius 1:43 pm 30 Sep 08

Sepi, that was discussed at the time. And presumably rejected.

I’d lay down a challenge to anyone who thinks posts and comments should be withdrawn: to define the bounds of their censorship. What is acceptable and what is unacceptable censorship? By his moderation of this site, JohnBoy’s nailed his colours to the mast regards that question. And while I might not agree with every little decision he makes (and I’ve petitioned him to change one or two – and failed), I agree with the overall thrust. RiotACT is better for being an open site, where everyone’s got a voice.

sepi sepi 1:36 pm 30 Sep 08

Comments are one thing, but I personally would delete the actual post about Binnoski.

I’m as nervous about it as you Aurelius 🙂 Don’t worry, when/if I ever make it out of Moderation, I might go back to disagreeing with you 😉 LOL

Aurelius Aurelius 9:11 am 30 Sep 08

Tyler, that’s twice in 3 weeks we’ve agreed.
You’re worrying me.

tylersmayhem tylersmayhem 9:05 am 30 Sep 08

I second all comments by Aurelius. The moment we start compromising information on this forum, where would the lines be drawn. It’s what makes RA so unique.

grundy grundy 8:46 am 30 Sep 08

Agreed on both points Aurelius.

The best thing about RiotACT is the ability to voice your comments/opinions without having it moderated or cut.
Hell, I’ve been slammed on here before, but who hasn’t!? 😀

Summer needs to realise that this (RiotACT) is not a personal attack on anyone involved. The community has a right to comment and voice their opinions, even if they are the only ones with that point of view…

Aurelius Aurelius 7:07 am 30 Sep 08

I also think it’s inappropriate to come here and throw around the names of the victims’ family members. Binnoski appeared here using that name. We who are so disrespectful have continued to refer to her under her chosen pseudonym, but those closer to the family have referred to her, and the victim’s mother, by their actual names. Maybe my attitude differs from the majority here, but I think that’s a bit disrespectful toward them.

Aurelius Aurelius 7:01 am 30 Sep 08

On the contrary.
If JohnBoy removes posts and comments, he will NOT be more respected. He will be roundly condemned, and rightfully so. Censorship is never respected.
Summer and others – if you want this story to disappear on RiotACT, then shut up about it. Constantly reviving it by commenting, especially when your comment is simply calling for the removal of the thread, is doing the opposite of your goal. Because the threads and comments shouldn’t be removed, so reviving them is bringing them to the surface, and increasing their exposure.

Hi Donna,

Marilyn’s daughter Julie was a beautiful person with a kind personality and she did light up the room when she entered. My heart goes out to her father, mother, two sisters and only nephew & also to Straun’s family at this devastating time for all of them.

Scott will be appearing in the Canberra court Fri 3rd Oct to be formally charged with the murder of Julie as he has only been charged with the murder of the unidentified female.

I just hope that all that has been published by all on this site sit in the court room as they proceed down the track and hear the horrific crime that has conflicted on two people.

Perhaps Johnyboy from Turner you too can sit in there and listen to the horrific crime.

Its time to take down all these negative posts, name calling & comments on Binnoski.
I honestly believe that you will be more respected by doing so. Yes you are not responsible for people posting things on this site but you do have the power to remove all these posts.

Now that we know Scott has been charged with these murders in respect of the direct families, relatives & close friends of these two who have lost their loved ones it would be out of respect that you take down all the name calling & return this site back to normality.

Only those that knew Julie & Straun well will know the full story & from reading some of posts on here many people have it wrong. There have also been some very kind comments from people.

I too knew Julie well – She was a lovely person.

Sure this is not a site to get on and grieve but as you can understand people do things when they are upset. And when you have lost a loved one you are looking for anything you can find about people who knew Julie and Straun.

The only way to stop all these posts is to remove them and get back to the latest news & make it a more positive site.

Granny Granny 11:34 pm 29 Sep 08

Donna, this is obviously very upsetting for you. I know how difficult it can be when you discover that you have shared your innermost self with a monster over a number of years. Is there someone you can talk to about what you are going through, who can help you work through your feelings at this terrible time?
