A disturbance in the Force - Matthew Cossey moves on

Jon Stanhope has just announced that the Secretary of ACT Labor, Matthew Cossey, is seeking greener pastures in the private sector.

He’s always been a pleasure to deal with from our point of view, but it will be interesting to see what happens within the party after such a long-standing presence departs.

I hear that the Liberal’s secretary Andrew Heath? is also leaving (pushed). Apparently he was a good administrator but a hopless political/campaign operator.

A left faction member… did he jump before he was pushed?

Secretary is voted by the rank and file rather than the parliamentary party so he wouldn’t have been affected by the change in the balance of power from the election, and I would think he would have been pretty safe if he’d wanted to continue in the role.

+1

I think he’s done a great job especially in terms of how well the administrative aspect of the office has progressed.

Probably couldn’t stand the smell of bullshit coming from Stanhope’s office any longer.

They also make things that make it easier to track and target those people you wish to kill.

amongst others… they are a defence supplier, they manufacture radar, radio and firing systems.

and they have a massive presence at Tidbinbilla tracking station… as a part of the NASA space program.

Ohhhhhhhh.

Hopefully his government relations work won’t be at the local level, then.

they make things to kill people

I just googled them and still don’t understand what they do. 🙁

” . . . leading mission systems integrator providing solutions for sea, land, air and office environments, with a workforce of more than 1300 staff employed in a variety of commercial and technical fields.”

According the ALP press release he’s taking up the job of Director of Government Relations for Raytheon Australia.

I have known Matthew for a long time and he is a very hardworking, very politically skilled man. I hope he ends up somewhere that pays well and has shorter hours, he has earned a bit of a break!

It doesn’t appear to be a seamless transfer of power. We all wait to see where Mr Cossey bobs up (the private sector is a big place) and also to see who gets the old job.
