A fantasy castle in Chapman

Simon Corbell has announced a program of upgrades to six Canberra playgrounds (or “play spaces” if you’ve been assimilated by the Borg).

“Play spaces to be upgraded as part of the 2010/11 Playground Safety Program include Ashburton Circuit, Kaleen; Tauchert Street, Chapman; Morgan Place, Curtin; Jeffries Street, Gowrie; De Little Circuit, Greenway; and Bayley Place, Macarthur,” he said.

“After consultation with local residents and schools, we have listened to the community on what they would like to see in their play spaces. The feedback we received found varying wants and needs for different communities and we have incorporated this feedback into the designs.

“Working together with the community has ensured that the renewed play spaces will more closely meet their needs.”

“The community in Chapman for example was seeking a play space for a wide range of ages as well as safe and challenging areas for play. In response to this, the design at the Chapman play space uses a ‘fantasy castle’ theme and includes a new plastic tunnel slide, climbing elements for both younger and older children and a new double swing.”

I bet you all wished you’d asked for a fantasy castle now!

its listed on the Visit Canberra website as a tourist attraction??

Might visit it after I watch the paint dry.

Didn’t they just do the Macarthur one in the last year or so?

I believe Simon Corbell grew up in Weston Creek (possibly Chapman?). Perhaps the ‘fantasy castle’ is a throwback to his own childhood in the region? Hahaha!
On another note, that may also explain why the ACT Govt closed and demolished the public primary school (with a large school hall) in neighbouring Rivett and then immediately built a large (~$1m+) hall at Chapman primary – schools less than 1 km apart as the crow flies. Seems a bit odd to me. Another suspicious example of poor fiscal mgt really. Maybe Chapman parents had more political clout, when using Rivett instead of Chapman school may have made more financial sense at the time?

Wonder if it will be a scale model of the fantasy castle they’re building in Civic?

Can’t they update that disgusting fungus that is the mushroom playground at the Belco Markets? It looks awful and dirty. And its listed on the Visit Canberra website as a tourist attraction??
