A functioning ACT Government work unit

Yesterday my garbage bin was stolen.

Yes, a completely full bin was taken from the kerb, holus bolus – gone.

Today I called the lost wheelie bin service on 6260 1547 – here’s a summary of the conversation:

Me: Hi, I would like to report my bin has been stolen

Operator: No problems, give me your address and we’ll have a new one out to you tomorrow

Me: Gave address

Done, dusted. May a thousand bed bugs infest the wanker who stole the original one, but that, is service.

Since its not often we get to talk about the positives of the local beuracratic system, this is my effort to spread the word that at least one area is still working… well… damn fantastically. Any similar stories out there ?

Invoice? No charges for replacement bins, people.

IIRC they remain the property of ACT Government.

The bin arrived on schedule.

swamiOFswank – you drove all around your suburb looking for a wheelie bin?

We didn’t have a stolen bin, but we had a broken lid on our recycling bin. Called up, and it was fixed shortly after (next day I think).

What was also really cool was how fast they fixed the pot holes in the road. I filled in an online form, got an email from a real person (!) about receiving it, and the pot holes was fixed within 2 – 3 days. I was expecting it to take weeks.

My bin was stolen overnight. It was full and quite ripe and stinky. I drove all around the suburb this morning looking for it but didn’t see it anywhere. When I arrived home this afternoon, there it was, empty, right where I’d left it. If I hadn’t had my neighbours as witnesses, I’d be wondering about my sanity. Now I only have to worry about alien bin abductions and identity theft. Nice reminder to shred before anything confidential goes out.

One logical question would have been “Are there any costs involved with the replacement of my bin … the one I’m alleging has been stolen?” (haha)

But I guess you’ll find out sooner or later when a little invoice turns up.

As someone else said. Chickens. Hatch. etc

They may ask you to open your garage to see if you have a stash of replacement bins you’ve collected 🙂

To get from Tuggers to Civic they go under the road from Gungahlin and then over the road to Belco. Oh someone said something about the tunnel to Belco, the Q is what tunnel? It is a bridge they go under.

I too think the whole thing is a crock, I really don’t like how the decided to scimp on an extra bridge for Tuggeranong to Gungahlin traffic. What would the extra cost have been. Even more interesting as the GDE is two lanes from Glenloch to Belconnen way, except for the bit over the road from Belconnen to Civic. I am stil aghast that the road surface is so shit. Why didn’t they bit the bullet and make it hotmix and not that sprayed on tar with gravel surface shit. Look after 1 year how much the Belco to Civic section has started to break up. Silly silly.

One last thing someone spoke about right hand exit’s, as far as I can see there is only 1, which is from Belco to Tugger’s. What many don’t realise is Parkes way is going to be re-alligned so that both lanes of traffic flow towards Belconnen, so the turn onto the Parkway will be the exit (on the left). The only other one is Tuggeranong to Civic, but by the looks of that it will be a lane split and not an exit.

You will find the number goes to the contractor not the government department. That is probably why it is efficent….

Isn’t your replacement bin one of those tiny little ones?

Ours got run over by the garbage truck a few months ago. We rang and they sent a new one. It was half the size, or at least feels that way being shorter and slightly squatter.

I suffered from a few stolen bins at a previous dwelling – never had an issue getting it replaced the next day. I don’t know if you still can, but back then all it took as a 20 second form on the canberra connect website. Done.

Do they replace the stolen rubbish?

My full recycling bin went walkies and I found it (still full) at the local shops…. I can’t imagine what fun that gave someone.

Perhaps reserve praise until it actually turns up.

same thing happended to my mother in law who lives across the road (no mother in law jokes please – she’s great!!) Someone stole her full bin – called up – new one there in 24 hours and I found the old one down a lane way a day or so later. For all the other hiccups, can’t fault the bin replacement people!!!

It was Bin Laden.

I note the story doesn’t end with “and the bin showed up”.
Insert quote: Something about chickens being counted.

Just don’t be too surprised when you get a nice little bonus item on your rates bill next time they’re due….

Cool! I need a new wheelie bin to use as a greywater storage tank in my back yard. All I need to do is tell them someone “stole” my wheelie bin… Hmm, efficient.
