Simon Corbell has announced that he’s extending the tenure of the Senior Commissioner of the Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission (ICRC) by just one year out into 2010.

Mr Paul Baxter has been the senior commissioner since the establishment of the body in 2000, with his last re-appointment in 2004.

Perhaps the extra money can be put towards a new hairstyle. His combover (smother) is almost as good as the Godfrey’s guy.

I think it’s more to do with the ACT joining the national energy regulation scheme that was supposed to be up and running at least 2 years ago and keeps getting postponed, and would ultimate demise of the ICRC since the Government has taken the majority of the price setting responsibilities from it over the past 8 or so years. I’d expect his contract has ended and they have extended it for another year on the assumption it may finally get up and running.

p’raps mr baxter has indicated he only desires a one year extension, for his own reasons. if he’s consistently competent, why not simply keep him on and advertise or appoint in a year; sensible to me… or am i missing inside guff here?
