The Greens’ Meredith Hunter has held forth on education:

To increase learning opportunities in the ACT, the Greens will:

— Increase funding to students with English as an Additional Language/Dialect to increase language proficiency standards;

— New Student Assistance Teams, to improve student engagement and better support schools and families;

— More professional development opportunities, for over 100 Learning Support Assistants;

— Expanded funding to the Therapy Assistants Program, to better support students with disability in schools; and

— Boost funding to adult literacy programs, to support lifelong learning.

This isn’t an education policy! This is patching at the lowest common denominator.

Where’s the encouragement for gifted students and the reward for achievement?

And WTF is “English as an additional dialect”? What English dialect? Or have these (illiterate!) Greens advisers in goat-hair pullovers, a polka luka plastic necklace and Birkenstocks cooked up some trendoid buzzword, utterly useless, divvying up Australian migrant groups’ languages into specific “dialects”? Like, is this a promise for extra translation funding in case I prefer to communicate in Khazaki originating from a different mountaintop than someone in the next suburb? Perhaps the Greens would like the schools’ phones to be answered by someone who can address a parent in Subtiaba or Rama Cay Kriol? A promise to a student who wants all their education materials in Cree that they can have funding to have them provided?

The Greens wanna support speakers in individual DIALECTS? Watch out ACT ratepayers! There are 39,000 dialects in the world and presumably the Greens would like each and every one of them to be validated and kept well alive!

Boa sorte, idiotas!

You do like to get worked up dont you? You’ll burst something at this rate.

I appreciate your efforts but I dont really need you misquoting a fairly minor aspect and then translating it in your own special way for me. Thanks anyway.Its a jolly read without your help. Dont worry it wont take votes away from the Liberals.

The Greens education policy commits them to less than $5 million in funding.

Both ALP and the Libs commit to over $50 million in education funding.

Is education important?

Wait.. what? Some of these don’t even make sense.

“the Greens will more professional development opportunities, for over 100 Learning Support Assistants”

“the Greens will new Student Assistance Teams, to improve student engagement and better support schools and families”

What does this stuff mean?

Ok, so that’s for the minority, but what about the other 99% of Canberrans??

Indeed, or the 44% of Canberrans who send their children to schools the Greens are aiming to de-fund?

Interesting tactic on the part of the Greens, to alienate 44% of the electorate through irrational ideology.

Take the single biggest system of independent schools in Canberra: run by the CEO. These schools teach – as a matter of ideology – that we are the custodians of the planet and it is our responsibility to manage the environment properly.
You would think the Greens would be, “Cool, good stuff”, but no.

You might also think somebody good at maths among the Greens (anybody?) could twig to the fact that children in this ideologically environmentally-friendly school system only cost The Ratepayer 25% per head of what it costs to send children to the grossly inefficient, discipline-deprived, and excellence-challenged public school system.
