A-League 4 Canberra - What is happening?

There’s no reason a Canberra A-League franchise can’t succeed. If League or Union can do it then Football can do it. It seems to always be assumed that if one will fail it will be football. It’s the biggest sport in town, it’s growing more than ever, and has infinitely more international value than the other codes. The old Cosmos were a poorly run under-funded team in a poorly run league. Their failure has no bearing on the strength of the football community in Canberra.

So I was only a youngster during the crash of the majority of canberras big sporting teams so if I missed something feel free to correct me.
But if we couldn’t afford to maintain soccer, basketball, union, cricket and league before why would doing it now be any different?
Soccer is like a Yoyo, A Fad. We had it, we lost it, we got over it and now we want it again. So we can run it into the ground again?
Canberra struggles to hold onto the raiders so wouldn’t adding another major sporting team just make it worse for all?

Next time maybe you should head down to the casino put your $200 on black.

I also paid my $200 for the foundation membership and have been pondering the ominous silence from the bid team. Like the original poster, I’m not looking for a refund – more than happy for my $200 to stay with the bid as long as they are going to eventually do something worthwhile with it.

It would be nice to get the occasional update from them though – even if it is to report that nothing is currently happening.

If the A-League bid is dead and buried for the moment as it seems, perhaps the money collected could go towards funding a National Youth League side from Canberra. At least that would provide some sort of career path for talented local footballers – of which Canberra manages to produce more than its fair share.

The FFA said last year that “we do believe Canberra is the right choice for the next A-League licence”… but who knows how many years it is until that spot opens up.
