A leaky explodey boat for the National Museum

The ABC has a story on a tentative collaboration between Administrator Stanhope and the National Museum to get an asylum seeker boat for their collection.

It’s probably a good idea.

In 50 years time the current boat people we’re locking up just to make Australia a less desirable destination will have had children and grand children and will be as Australian as you and I.

And in that future we’ll all ooh and ahh at the dangerous leaky boat (made dangerous because psychopaths that we are we destroy any boats people dare to turn up on. But not yachts with rich white people on them. Oh no) and we’ll keep silent about what a spiteful nation of moral pygmies we were that set out to oppress those who by then will have become our fellow citizens.

If we’re lucky in 50 years time we’ll have grown out of being a fearful little people.

If we’re very lucky.

I hope the boat is treated properly. I had a beer crate shipped from Belgium and Customs charged me $200 to get it sprayed!!

Locking up? I thought they were free to leave any time they wanted.

“In 50 years time the current boat people we’re locking up just to make Australia a less desirable destination will have had children and grand children and will be as Australian as you and I.”

Grammar note: should be “… as Australian as you and me”, not “as Australian as you and I”.

The collaboration will need to include Customs. The border patrol people may well be recalcitrant. Refugee boats are destroyed for quarantine reasons – the regime to make a refugee boat safe for import by getting every mite and every seed out of it will be pretty considerable and pretty challenging …

Museums and galleries do that kind of thing all the time.

I think in 50 years maybe asking too much. Sadly I’m not expecting to see tolerance in my lifetime.

This is a great idea though.

That’s pretty tolerant for an ex grunt. In a previous life you were expected to travel to exotic places, meet interesting people and kill them.

In a past life being the key term.
I was 17 back then, now I’m 31.

It took me until maybe 28 to learn not to be a cockwit regarding different peeps/culture.
I now see we are all humans and I judge on a persons merit/actions, not skin colour/religion/sec etc etc.

Also having dealing with canberras white trash scum for around six years, it would be pretty hard to judge other cultures.

I’m guessing we’ll have those long promissed flying cars too, have to watch out for the flying porkers though. Unicorns? The Ager Of Aquarius? Light Rail?

Given those remarks, JB, I expect there to be some rather colourful and revealing comments on this post, not at all relating to the National Museum
