Andrew Barr has been out to have a look at Enlighten and his office have sent in some pictures. He had this to say:

Now part of the Canberra Festival, ENLIGHTEN 2012 features 35 events – many of them free over four nights on 2, 3, 9 and 10 March.

There really is something for everyone in the ENLIGHTEN program and I encourage all Canberrans to check out the great events and invite your family and friends to see Canberra in a whole new light.

You will be able to create your own masterpiece at the National Portrait Gallery’s Master Class event or learn about music technology with top Australian DJ Tom Piper at Questacon’s Music Today: How do you play it that way?

At the Gallery of Australian Design some of Australia’s most innovative minds, such as fashion designer Fernando Frisoni, will provide a glimpse of new directions emerging in Australian design.

The Electric Canvas will collaborate with local artists to create architectural projections on to the National Library of Australia, Old Parliament House, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery and Questacon buildings.

More information is available on their website.

This looks beautiful and Enlighten seems a good idea. The thing is, who is controlling the calendar for all these events ? In just a couple of months, we have the Multicultural Festival, Canberra Show and Enlighten. I’m pretty sure there are others but I can’t think of them now.

Surely if the Government wants to ensure a good turn out for these events, its best to space them out ?

Sydney has it’s own lighting show called Vivid Sydney.

But besides the Opera House and St Mary’s Cathedral most was quite poor given that there wasn’t enough space to appreciate the whole view from afar.

They really should leave these types of events to Canberra where there is bucket loads of space to accommodate them and do them justice.
