TAMS are sharing their plans to upgrade the Chapman Shops:
Manager of Design and Development for Parks and City Services Diana Hill today announced that the final sketch plans for the Chapman shops upgrade, which includes new community gathering spaces, lighting, bike racks, landscaping and improved access, are now available for public viewing.
“The proposed upgrade of the Chapman shops will revitalise the area, providing locals and traders with a safer, more accessible and attractive centre,” Ms Hill said.
“There was broad public consultation for the upgrade and many suggestions were included in the final design.”
Upgrades to the centre include:
• new street furniture including seats, drinking fountain, picnic setting and shade structure, bike racks, bins and a community noticeboard
• significant improvements to pedestrian access in and around the shops
• improvements to car park safety and rearrangement of car spaces for people with disabilities
• new lighting to enhance security
• landscaping works including more trees and drought tolerant shrubs
• new footpath connecting the shops to the bus stop, new kerb ramps and wider paving adjacent to shop fronts
• new community gathering spaces
• new signage to identify the centre to passing traffic, and improved visibility to the shop fronts from Perry Street.
“One highlight of the design is the proposal of a new community gathering space with shelter and seating, optimising views of Black Mountain.”
