A Monument Doing the Coaching at the Raiders?

Honestly what does it take to get rid of David Furner from the Canberra Raiders.

I long ago stopped wasting my money going to watch them play, now I just get angry and turn the TV off.

Week after week watching brain dead footballers give away penalties or fritter away a lead to be beaten again, just as happened tonight against Brisbane.

I never did like Rugby Union but its look a lot better than the garbage David Furner orchestrates week after week.

Keep Furner at the Raiders and you risk people voting with their feet. You can’t educate mugs and you can’t put minds on monuments, put another way, you can’t have a monument trying to coach.

Check out this (old and dodgy) video on Youtube for an explanation as to why this type of system would have issues.

Ohh…and the actual link! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgMlDy2jP9s

Great explanation. I wonder how many spectators are even aware of this? It demonstrates exactly why the forward pass rule is complex and slightly ambiguous. It’s no wonder that video refs aren’t able to rule on a forward pass.

There was a GPS system developed last year I think that takes the previous motion of the ball into account and so wouldn’t have this problem. I’ll try to find a link for the story.

The standard of NRL Refs has been going down hill for years. A simple GPS in the ball would say if had gone backwards or forwards. A beep in the refs ear would say the ball is in forward motion without being held and hey presto, forward pass, blow metal thing in my mouth.

Check out this (old and dodgy) video on Youtube for an explanation as to why this type of system would have issues. It’s a video for Rugby Union, but the physics of it remain valid. A whole heap of passes that appear to be completely legal actually travel forwards in relation to the pitch, despite being completely legal passes. This is why the laws of the game have been updated so that the only consideration is what direction the ball has left the passers hand, not what actually happens after that point.

I’m not sure these days, given that rule change, why the video ref isn’t allowed to take forward passes into consideration? It used to be harder when they had to call on whether the ball traveled forwards through the air, but surely making a call on whether the ball had left the hand forwards or backwards should be a lot more clear cut?

Could be worse. They could have Stephen Kearney coaching them…

C’mon the Broncos were awesome on Friday night.

They didn’t even give a penalty away for 50mins. Surely that shows how good they were playing.

What you mean to say is the Brocos didn’t get caught milking for 50 minutes.

The referees gave an A+ performance as well. They weren’t affected by the home crowd at all.

The standard of NRL Refs has been going down hill for years. A simple GPS in the ball would say if had gone backwards or forwards. A beep in the refs ear would say the ball is in forward motion without being held and hey presto, forward pass, blow metal thing in my mouth. Raiders fell behind as the refs got tired at the end of the first half. Bad calls that should have changed hands never did and the Bronco’s had ball they should have lost. That gave time for the Raiders to get sloppy.

As for dumping Furnsie, if the same Raiders take to the field that gave away stupid ball last week, I’ll join the chorus. Cost your team 6 point by being an idiot, you’ve got no right to be called a professional.

Hardly a surprise that the Raiders lost, given the five-day turnaround and it being an away game and being without Fensom, White and Dugan. That’s why the bookies had Brisbane as a long odds-on favourite before the game; the subsequent injury to the Great Man didn’t help.
To be 3-4 is hardly the end of the world, indeed the Raiders were in the top eight only last week. Seems as if johnboy has had this piece sitting on ice since last year, and has been just itching for any excuse to let rip with some new season’s Furnerphobia. Get over it.

Unfortunately though, I don’t see DF moving on until he thinks it’s time for DF to move on.

Correct, when you are part of the Raider’s Furner dynasty, you can pretty much call your own shots.

The Raiders looked unenthusiastic & lost after Campese left the field. Points to Josh McCrone & Tom Learoyd-Lahrs for having a go.

They’ll improve when they get a few other their injured players back. I certainly wouldn’t be calling curtains on the season just yet.

Yes, I’ve been a Raiders fan for as long as I can remember but the one one-dimensional tactics they employ under Furner’s command are just plain second-rate. I am a Raiders member and go to every home game and love to watch them play, but I was far too embarrassed by last nights effort I did not make the final whistle.

The Raiders have a good team – quite solid when at full strength – but the lacklustre game they play essentially falls down to Furner. I agree that it’s well and truly time for Furner to move on and get someone in who can spark the team into playing a style that the opposition actually have to think about how to defend. Unfortunately though, I don’t see DF moving on until he thinks it’s time for DF to move on.

We need to lose 30 games in a row to get rid of Furner…

There was no kick chase except for that one try, and hardly any ball movement. Almost makes one miss the Matt Elliot days.

And they wonder why they aren’t allowed to play on TV!

I have to agree with you JB. There are so many negative aspects to NRL that it is no longer entertaining. The referees and linesman ignored dozens of forward passes in last night’s game and this always plays to the advantage of the team with the most possession. While not making excuses for the Raiders (who were woeful) some of the penalties given against them should have been against the Broncos who lately have perfected the knack of holding the attacking player down to milk a penalty. It was 50 minutes into the game before the Raiders were awarded a penalty. There was no penalty awarded to the Raiders when an off-side marker stripped the ball from their dummy half. The video-ref looked a dozen times at the only try the Raiders scored and at least one Bronco’s try would have been called a double movement 12 months ago.
Scrums are a laugh these days, the game is full of unpenalised voluntary tackles and the players don’t even try to stand up before they play the ball.
And we pay huge subsidies to this sport?

I meant “holding the defending player down”
