The Chief Health Officer is letting it be known that ACT Health are trying to find out more about what our mosquito populations are up to:

ACT Chief Health Officer, Dr Paul Kelly today announced that the first stage of a mosquito survey is currently being conducted in Canberra to enable a better understandingof the mosquito population in Canberra and to assess their potential to carry disease.

A further survey will be conducted early in 2013 early next year.

“The survey, being conducted by the Department of Entomology at the University of Sydney, will involve trapping mosquitoes in various locations across Canberra using mosquito traps. The traps will be placed at several sites in Canberra close to lakes and nature reserves,” Dr Kelly said.

“The collected mosquitoes will then be analysed including identifying the species and testing for pathogens.

1) How long have you been a mosquito?

Good god Mr Dover, you started early…

Mosquitos are heat seekers, so, if you’re hot stuff, prepare to be vampired. Only the females are blood suckers, must be a female thing.

1) How long have you been a mosquito?
2) What do you think of the services for the mosquito community in Canberra?
3) Have you ever been discriminated against for your mosquito beliefs?
4) Do you as a mosquito used public transport in Canberra? Rubbish innit?
5) Would the introduction of a light rail system provide measurable benefits for you in your mosquito activities? You’re kidding right?
6) Cyclists, do the mosquito community find them as much of a snotty and self righteous nuisance as the rest of us?
7|) Public art in Canberra, has it enriched your life as a mosquito? Why you and no one else?
8 ) Summernats, you going this year?
9) Do you think there is sufficient access to the justice system for mosquitoes? Judges, pack of namby-pamby bleedin’ heart lefties or what?
10) Pensions and benefits, do you feel that there is a case for enhancing these for anyone who can prove they are a genuine mosquito?

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to complete this. This is part of a gender-neutral, environmentally- friendly, non-religious, politically-correct, Legislative assembly funded survey. Please enote that the findings of this survey will emerge in 23 years time, and the main finding will obviously be that we spent so much money on the survey that we have nothing in the pot to spend on the improvements.

If you feel your life as a mosquito has been in any way negatively affected by this survey, please call “Mosquito Aid,” a legislative assembly gender- neutral, environmentally-friendly, non-religious, politically correct scheme to support the mosquito community in the community community and their relatives friends and non-specified-gender type “partners for as long as they are together”.

What I’d like to know is why they seem to target some people more than others. Is it smell?

In DanielK’s case possibly so… 🙂

Apparently they’re keen on stinky feet and scented deodorants but with DK’s help we’ll soon get to the bottom of it.

As far as I can tell there’s only one flying Mosquito in the world and it’s in New Zealand. Pretty easy survey if you know where to start.
