A new home for the spooks

Phillip Ruddock has today announced he wants designs for a new battlestar galactica for the spooks at ASIO.

Interesting for us mere mortals is the announcement it’s going to be in “Canberra’s security precinct”.

We have a security precinct?

This hallowed turf apparently includes “Commonwealth land between Constitution Avenue and Parkes Way, next to Anzac Park East” because that’s where they’re going to build it.

You idiots…

As usual, going off on the most recent rumour you have heard.

If you want to see some genuine laughs, go get a placard and stand at DSD’s entrance with a sign to the effect of ‘no Nukes in Canberra’. I’m sure they’d get the pun.

Out facing lights also used as signal, if on->go home being observed

I recall a story my “uncle”. a long time family friend, told me about a long tome ago about trying to convince the department of defence that the F1-11 was still a decent aircraft. Using a Canberra street directory he did a flyby of the Depatment of defence and/or (I was young and my momory was never that great) Anzac park and sent then closeup photo of the people he was dealing with’s office. Needlees to say thay were convinced of the old aardvarks (because it’s a ground pig, I think) usefulness for a few more years.

Oh, and not sure if you noticed but the real spook offices in canberra HAVE NO WINDOWS. Look and ASIO, no window and the lights face out not to light up baddies but to make it harder to focus on what’s behind them.

A fence and tank traps? Throw in a minefield to keep them really happy!

ASIO are probably jealous of DSD’s excellent fence. I reckon they’ve always wanted a fence like that.

Well, we did have a security precinct, till you went and blabbed about it to all and sundry, Johnboy. Expect a dawn visit from some large gentlemen in dark suits soon 😉

Would that be Anzac Park West, which is currently being redeveloped?

you mean apart from the buildings they have at brindabella park ? the ones being specifically modified to include a sky bridge, as the documents aren’t allowed out of the building to go to the other building ?

and there’s already buildings in that location, if its where i’m thinkin of. its nothin new..

Well at least its being built in the city, and not farmed out to some marginal electorate as defence and the wider public service has suffered.

As for the site, well at least it has lakeside views, but it seems a bit small. (And traffic changes because of it will be interesting to say the least)
