Not wanting to start another Bun fight. But has any one noticed the new “Covered” Speed Camera signs on the Hindmarsh overpass?

Slamming on the breaks – is that when you’re forceful with a Kid Kenobi cd?

like i’ve said a several times, the camera’s aren’t the issue. The issue is idiots who go 20km below the speed limit. If you speed, they will catch you, but you don’t have to go below the limit (and slam on your breaks before the camera) not to get caught.

I know this speed camera issue has been done to death on RA over the past months, with the general consensus being that they’re OK cause you have to be an idiot to get caught.

The problem with that argument is that it follows that it would be OK to put cameras anywhere and everywhere to ‘catch’ all kinds of illegal behaviour, regardless of whether there was any public benefit (other than revenue raising) in doing so.

You could then justify parking cameras, mobile phone using while driving cameras, jaywalking cameras, littering cameras, loitering cameras, smoking within 5m of a building cameras, drinking in public cameras, turning right at a no right turn intersection cameras…

Then as technology improves you could have cameras designed to catch people chucking a sickie or skipping school. Cameras to track your every movement and record who you associate with, and what you might say. Big Brother style cameras in your home – just to make sure there were no illegal activites going on.

Farfetched perhaps – but that’s the road you go down when you start allowing cameras for no good reason.

When will these pecker heads figure out, that if you sit on the speed limit you dont need to give a shit about speed cameras?

If you can turn on a computer, you grey matter surely ought be advanced enough to regulate how heavy your right foot is on the juice FFS.

I guess it’s kinda consistent with the Government overall spin of having a RRD (Revenue Raising Device) at or near a point where traffic merges. Dopes of course will try and argue that’s because there are more crashes where traffic merges – ignoring the stupidity of the observation …

… On the other hand, advice to Government from traffic flow analysis would indicate that more experienced drivers will move into the faster flowing right-hand lane to free up the left hand carriage way for merging traffic and that by positioning a RRD before the merge zone, it may be possible to capitalise on drivers in the “pass/accelerate” phase who exceed the 100k/hr limit.

Simply another case of the unscrupulously sneaky preying on the stupid.

They should have promised to put in the speed cameras after they finished the road.. That way they’d be in a hurry to finish it…

BTW I still swear theres a part of the road that you have to just about drive off it to stay in ur lane!

the signs have been there for months. the cameras sites were announced at the same time as the original ones, just to be installed at a later date. These ones just will be less obvious, hidden amongst the trees.. absolutely rediculous location though, but at least it will stop them hiding the vans behind the sign going up the hill north bound.

On the money Jazz. Hell with the returns, I wouldn’t even wait ’till I could afford ’em – I’d bloody borrow to stick the little money makers in!

If it were me, and I had speed cameras as my business i’d install a new one every time i could afford it.

Same on the Hindmarsh overpass on the Monaro Highway.

They’ll have ’em every 250m on the Parkway by New Years – it’ll just mean people will speed in the back streets.

They been there long time
