A new “The Bush Capital”

johnboy 16 December 2008 3

Our Chiefly Leader brings word that $31,000 of has convinced local historian and architect Mr Roger Pegrum (any relation to former NCA honcho Anabelle Pegrum?) to revise his 25 year old opus “The Bush Capital”.

It is, we are told, “a concise history of the establishment of Canberra as the Nation’s Capital”.

I’m fascinated to hear what changes have occurred to the story of 1913 in the last 25 years.

Anyway this is part of the Centenary of Canberra hoohaa, so enjoy it.

Revisionist history. It happens all the time, remember the slogans on the shed wall in Animal farm? Stanhope will be angling for the inclusion of more Indigenous issues plus something about being socially liberal, not that this is a bad thing, but it does appear to be a case of the winners writing history to suit their own idealism.

A bit of the old cultural cringe creeping back in?

All that asides, I’ll probably buy copy anyway.
