Hi Rioters,
This will either appear a trifle (not the dessert) or potentially a firebrand statement to relaunch the ever present War on Cycling. Yes – I have a comment, a positive one, for a cyclyst on the road this morning.
For those of you smart enought to not be in Canberra this morning, the light was poor. While I was on my drive to work I approached an intersection that provides sufficient visibility both left and right to anticipate the lights and oncoming traffic. My intention was to turn left at the slip lane so I reduced speed enough to make sure I wouldn’t get arseholed by someone going faster than they really need to (My light was red so they would have had right of way),
In the poor light of this overcast morning I noticed a bike rider in a high visibility vest. Now, I’m not here to say that without the vest I wouldn’t have noticed the rider and increased the possibility that we could have had an incident. I’m here to say that the vest increased our chances of NOT having an incident. I’ve seen road trauma, its horrible and tragic and I believe for the most part avoidable.
So… to the lady with the high visibility vest and nice tanned legs riding past Parly House this morning, you’re awesome.
(I know… its not really interesting… but if drivers and riders show each other sufficient care and respect , we don’t need to have the flame war and the horrible visits to the hospital.)
Enjoy your holidays and remember DOUBLE DEMERIT POINTS.
