A production error will no doubt be blamed. Liberals to pay up for their advertising

Speaker Rattenbury has adjudicated on the childish squabbling about Alistair Coe and Vicki Dunne’s publicly funded newsletters:

In examining the matter I have ascertained that the advice of the Secretariat’s Corporate Services Office was sought on the content of a proposed publication before it was printed but that the published version included additional material that was not subject to any advice from Corporate Services.

I have determined that the additional material is of a party political and campaign nature. The language used in this additional content includes a headline criticising “ACT Labor” which is precisely the sort of language that election candidates and political parties use in their campaign material.

The Liberals will now have to fund the cost of putting out their publication and, one hopes, tighten up their processes to avoid such errors in future.

[You up the back there! Stop sniggering!]

UPDATE 27/06/12 17:55: John Hargreaves has wasted no time in sticking the boot into the hapless tories:

There has now been discovered another sneaky attempt by the Canberra Liberals to
circumvent the expenditure guidelines for members of the Legislative Assembly.

Today I received advice from the Speaker confirming the misuse of public money by Liberal
members, Vicki Dunne and Alistair Coe.

“I am astounded, but not surprised, that the Canberra Liberals have again been caught out
producing an election campaign pamphlet by abusing an entitlement and misusing taxpayers
money”, said Mr Hargreaves

“To cap it all off, they altered the approved version of the pamphlet and produced one in
deliberate contravention of the Members’ Guide and Speaker’s directions.

John Hargreaves has wasted no time in sticking the boot into the hapless tories:

There has now been…hic…..discovered another sneaky attempt….hic….by the Canberra Liberals to circumvent the expenditure…..burp….guidelines for members of the Legislative Assembly.

Today I had a few bottles of Shiraz for lunch and…..hic…..received advice from the Speaker confirming that Graysonline is one the bext places to find cheap wine….hic……and that it isn’t misusing public money to spend a heap of dosh on an Al Grassby statue…….burp……….sorry, where was I again?

I am quite frankly astounded that I haven’t soiled my pants yet after all the piss I consumed at lunch, but I am not at all surprised that….hic…I have the worst wind in the chamber after all the meat pies I consumed afterwards. And to add to all this, if I had to go to the toilet now I have no….hic…doubt that the Canberra Liberals campaign pamphlet wouldn’t be nearly absorbent enough to wipe my….hic….burp….bum with.

Now, I’m off back down to the club……..burp”

And this is from an individual who approved the construction of an edifice to a man who criminally subverted the cause of justice, but also financed (through ACT ratepayer funds) a bronze statue of this horrid, horrid person.

Hargreaves; Take your bottle of red and p#ss off.

I think they were claiming publicly that it was a mistake. Kind of hard to slip on your keyboard and add party political material into a tax funded flier.

Could anybody further explain how the destroyer of Revolve can even begin to criticise others for wasting taxpayers’ money?

Can anyone explain how it’s possible for Mr Hargreaves to be “astounded, but not surprised”?

Another day, another sneaky abuse of taxpayers money by the Canberra Liberals. But, it’s always somebody else’s fault. This mob stand for nothing.
