I remember the publican and the priest’s ongoing conversation in Sydney from years ago. However the best outside a Church was “What would you do if God came to Carlton on Wednesday?” To which some wit repplied “Move Jesaulenkoto Centre Forward.” Well it was Melbourne 1980.

“‘jesus saves’ – ‘but keegan scores on the rebound'” is a well known similar scrawl from liverpool about the same time… i like a quick public wit like these.

Yes I can remember many times driving into Sydney down Broadway and trying to read the church sign on the left while immediately looking to the right to catch the response from the publican. I was a fun! and dangerous given the heavy traffic. Should be more of it.

There was a long-running sign exchange in Sydney between a bank, a church and a pub on each side of an intersection. The bank put up a sign saying “Come in for one of our Heavenly loans”. The church then had a sign saying “Money does not make you happy”. The pub then put up a sign saying “Beer can make you happy and I sell it here”.

I reckon the best Church sign I’ve seen

“God make me the person my dog thinks I am”
