A Romantic Dinner in Canberra

I cant recall what soppy movie I was watching the other day but it had a scene where the lead characters were out for this lovely romantic black tie dinner, dulcet tones from the crooner at the piano and all around soft smoochy ambiance.

It got me thinking that i really didnt know of any such locations in Canberra where someone can take their loved one and really lay on the romance. Sure there are many nice restaurants, and the dinner and movie is a tried and true formula, but what would you do if you had to lay on the really romantic night out for the love of your life?

If your looking for a romantic evening check out this group of people http://www.mmemories.com.au they do everything from organising the surprise of an invitation and gift , for both men and women to arranging a date to suit your tastes. like dinner in the zoo and aquarium how romantic is that, resonably priced but u get what you pay for

Back seat of my ’67 Kingswood, burgers and banana smoothies to hand, lake view, is about as morantic as it gets.

went to the boathouse the other night and was quite impressed. as it was a quiet night of the week, we had time to just sit back and relax, we weren’t rushed through.
food was excellent. (barring my idea of rare being different from the chef’s.. i just sucked it up though)

Waiter, there’s a back hair in my cocktail!

Cube…? 🙁

This is like the waterhole thread. My secrets, are my own….

while i rekkun there are better places to eat – ie better food – aubergine at griffith is pretty swank, with sorta silver service. similarly (strange, being owned by the same people n that…), courgette – where fringe benefits was on marcus clarke st – is also pretty noice for a romantic slap-up feast. ottoman has a nice vibe for this, too.

others have mentioned chairperson and yip. and i’m glad dickson kfc got a guernsey. wot about the tradies but? ya can swoon her in a tram.

in a tram! noice.

Evil,
That only works on qbn and tuggers chicks. i think it has to with going to a fast food joint outside of their local region that shows you’ve really gone over and above 🙂

The waters edge is my choice for a quiet, romantic dinner. The meals are good, the wine list is quite reasonable and the outlook is great.

I do agree that Canberra does lack a Black Tie type eatery.

Best bet would be to lay it on yourself. Whip up something special, whack it in a hamper and have a romantic dinner at the National Carilon or somewhere similar. Could even abduct a wandering gypsy violinist for the musical accompanyment.

Takeaway from KFC Dickson, followed by a romantic drive up to Mt Ainslie: works every time!

Red Hill look out. cant beat it.

want soemthing cheaper try the benchmark. Both restaurants tend to have staff who understand the concept of minimal intrusion, plus the food usually is bang on the number.

Mind you though, food and atmosphere wont help you much unless you are in the mood for a bit of Barry White kiddies.

So err umm I cannot believe anyone has said Grazing in Gundaroo yet.

Top service and atmosphere and food to die for.

Took Mrs Danman there for her birthday 3 courses and 4 drinks later cost us $114 with the entertainment book.

I found the docket in my desk draw yesterday and was wow-ing myself on such a good deal.

We just spent $640 for 3 people in Kingsleys Bunda St. That was helped with one bottle of wine at $240 and another cheaper bottle with a few cognacs later. I Wagyu steak, 1 Snow crab, and 1 Alaskan King crab.

Green Herring at Gold Creek is intimate, and quality food.

I went to the Testra Tower back in April. It worked out at over $300 for three people with only one bottle of wine.

Up at Telstra Tower on a clear winter night…can’t beat that view.

Water’s edge is nice too but the tower would have to be more romantic

I agree with sepi, Byrne’s Mill is very atmospheric, quiet, charming and romantic… and yet, it’s in Queanbeyan?

If you haven’t been there, try it. Mostly game and fish – it’s classy and the food is good.

Meat Trays at Maggies on a Thursday night followed by a teaser on the dogs or horses all at the same venue. Their counter menu features steak.

Yes, I’ve been watching the Librarians for those who get the reference.

I used to take chicks to the Carrington in Bungendore back in the early 90’s. Nice drive out there while the restaurant was very intimate, especially if you got a table near the fireplace.

“Romance in Bungendore” is the name of my new band.

Chairman and Yip in Civic has a special place in my heart

The Mill House at QBN is really nice – and fairly expensive.
