Thank you to Lake George Winery for supplying a wonderful meal to the 3 fire crews providing asset protection last night. The pasta with bolognese source was certainly
a cut above the rat packs on the trucks. Would have loved to have tried the wine but there are certain boundaries we cannot cross. I will definitely be back.

The Hoyts Theatres grove at Lake George North, now the Arthur Gurney VC Rest Area seemed to have survived fairely well due to the wind change. It would be sad to lose it as it is the largest of the original rest areas of the remembrance driveway and is worth a visit.

The Federal Hwy may still have problems and you will need to close your windows.

Lake George Fire 10am Update Thursday 23/11/2006
Posted: 23/11/2006
A 130ha bushfire burning 10km north of Gunderoo on Marked Tree Road to the West of Lake George. The northbound lane of the Federal Highway is closed with the southbound lane being used for traffic travelling in both directions.

There is little active fire at this time but this is expected to increase during the day. Aerial reconnaissance currently taking place. Crews have been attempting to put a backburn in overnight, but have been hampered by poor weather conditions and hazardous smoke.

Sixty-five volunteer firefighters from the Rural Fire Service have been deployed to work on this fire. They will continue on containment work today. Dozers will be working in bushland on the western side of the Federal Hwy.

Motorists that intend on travelling through this area are advised to visit the RTA website www.rta.nsw.gov.au or call the Roads and Traffic information line on 132 701 for further information.

I drove past it all thursday arvo. It came awfully close to the Lerida (?) winery, near Madews. Awful plce to fight a fire, steep-as.
tonight, coming back, you could see the flashing lights of the fire appliances up on those vertical hills.

firerys are like shearers….good food and a thankyou and they’ll go till the jobs done. sadly a waning ethic in this world. i always drove past thinking winery people were wankers, but i now reconsider my opinions….i tip my hat to all involved.

A big “Good on ya'” to the firies.

I think he was the guy next door. It was late and I was not keeping track of names that well so I may be wrong. All very nice people and worth a cellar door visit in the future.

Might have got the name wrong as my mate tells me its Verida to thank.

Is this the same place as Madews? David Madew donated heaps of wine to a big fundraiser I attended recently. He’s a very kind man.

Well I was cranky when our phone went off at 3AM, but it turned out the person who should have been getting the overnight calls was out fighting the fires, which turned out to be near my Mum’s place. So I got over it!

I couldnt go when the pager went off but thankyou to those who made it out there and for doing what they could!
