A triumph of school supervision

By johnboy - 7 April 2011 9

ACT Policing’s Crime Targeting Team arrested a 14-year-old male and a 15-year-old male for several burglaries in the Weston Creek area yesterday (April 6).

Around 1.00pm on Wednesday April 6 ACT Policing received a call from a member of the public in relation to suspicious youths in the backyard of an address in Waramanga.

Enquiries lead members of the Crime Targeting Team to a nearby school where two male youths were identified. Police searched the youths and found in their possession a number of items believed to be stolen.

Both youths were subsequently arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House.

They were charged with a number of offences and will face the ACT Childrens Court today.

What, they should’ve rounded up all the school kids you thought may have done it?

That’s one helpful comment. I am not saying round up any kid. There were kids who vandalised and broke into an empty house near us. I don’t think it’s crazy to think it could have been those same kids.

It could’ve been the same kids for sure. Unfortunately a hunch or suspicion will only get you so far.

what has school supervision got to do with it? They were probably wagging, there are no truant officers any more, schools aren’t going to chase every drop kick who decides to wag school, there aren’t the resources or personnel to do that. The parents don’t give a shit, so why is it the schools problem?

These are probably the same kids, who broke into 3 houses in Greenvale Street, Fisher last week. In one of the houses, they found some eggs in the fridge and proceeded to throw them around the place. Just for good measure, they then took some photos of the mess for the owners to enjoy when they got home.

This reminds me of when our home was broken in two years ago. I suspected school kids but the police didn’t even bother trying to find out who did it. The thieves threw eggs and chocolate syrup from our fridge all over the floor, furniture & ceiling. it took a lot of cleaning up. I think the vandalism got to me more than having our things stolen. I am very sad to hear a similar thing happened to those people in Fisher.

These twats are underage, they’ll get off the charges (stern talking to and thats about it), feel for the cops and the house owners, a huge waste of time and resources.

They’re unlikely to get off the charges (sounds like they were caught with property stolen from the burglaries). Quite a few young burglars get locked up and some will just plead guilty straight up, as they don’t really care what happens.

The parents of these twats will blame the education system for not watching their “little angels” during school hours. The school will blame the government for not being able to do anything and will look to go on strike for a payrise. The government will blame the police and the house owners for being heavy handed and biased against the disadvantaged youths and give themselves a payrise. The parents of the youths will then sue the house owners for providing too much temptation for their “little angels”. The “little angels” continue to ditch school and steal.

I wonder if their parents had given the permisssion slips to leave school at lunch (or if they were ona long toilet break)
