Putting up with the cold weather might be easier sled than done, but attending a two-day winter market in Queanbeyan may just be the perfect way to chill out this weekend.

The Queanbeyan Winter Night Markets will be held at the Queanbeyan Showground this Friday and Saturday, showcasing an outdoor festival of food trucks, dessert stalls, retail vendors, rides, games and more.

There will also be music played throughout the day till late, jumping castles, a snow machine, boutique retail shopping and an array of regional gourmet food stalls and international street food stalls.

Queanbeyan Winter Night Markets organiser Sam Adams said this was the Aussie Night Markets’ second event to be held in Queanbeyan this year, following a successful event in March.

“During our last event, we had close to 5,000 people attend each day, so it’s been massively popular,” Sam said.

“We get a lot of comments from people asking when we’re coming back, and every time we travel to another location, the event just keeps getting bigger and bigger, so we can’t wait to come back to Queanbeyan.

“Our favourite thing about our event in Queanbeyan is that it’s in such a large area and we have the potential for such a massive turnout which is just fantastic.”

Sam said the Winter Markets had been running at several locations across Australia since the second week of June.

“We’ve gone inland as far as Dubbo, then we were in Armidale, and then we went to Tamworth last weekend. We’ve been all around NSW,” he said.

“Queanbeyan is actually our second last stop for the Winter Markets.

“Then in the first week of August, we will kick off with our normal Night Markets again.”

The Markets will introduce three new kids’ rides and snow machines.

“Our hours have also changed so they’re more winter-friendly too,” Sam said.

“We’ve always thought it would be too cold and people wouldn’t want to attend because of the temperatures; however, the markets remain successful.

“People have been rolling in, bang on 12 o’clock to the Winter Markets, and they’re spending a lot longer than they traditionally would spend at the Night Markets. They’re just a different vibe to the other markets we run.”

They contain a $40 Aussie Night Market voucher to be spent on any stall at the event and two unlimited rides wristbands for the little ones.
