I’m looking for advice about Accountants or Book Keepers that work with small business clients.

A Google search brings up many options but some inside info is always useful.

Can you recommend a good accountant or book keeper that works with small business?

Thanks in advance

I have been using Harry Hoang from Tailored Accounts for several years now and I’m very happy. I run a small retail business and Harry has setup processes that make things very easy and streamlined.

A bit OT.

Have a small business, and a very good book-keeper who has prepared the BAS for the last few years.

The business has always run on empty, but the BAS has always been owed.

At some point, it dawned on me that I was only drawing this meagre profit, but the BAS was saying otherwise.

I had a tax agent go through the returns, based on bank statements, to discover that MYOB had a glitch, reporting that I had twice the income entered. This was not apparent with any of the reports generated, but hidden in the BAS calculation.

May I suggest that anyone using an older version of MYOB (who can afford to constantly update?) double check their MYOB BAS generated statements, as it has taken 12 months to claw back some of the overpayments made. The tax agent spoke to the ATO, who were not in a position to comment, but seemed aware that I was not Robinson Crusoe.

My book-keeper is excellent, but I will not mention a name as I’m sure she does not need additional customers 🙂

Hi Mate,

Getting hold of a book keeper is equally imp as having a good accountant. We once had a book keeper who made our life quite difficult. Got recommended by a friend about http://www.globalaccountingservices.com.au an year ago and have been smooth sailing. They do the books and are good accountants. Well worth a try.

Sharon Oliver is a bookkeeper (not accountant) but will do all your bookkeeping, payroll, cashflows, BAS stuff. She then hands on the monthly/quarterlys to your accountant for annual lodging. I know a few small business owners, me included, that use their services and can’t say enough good things about them.

Harry Hoang in Deakin is great, prompt, easy to deal with and uses a great cloud accounting system called Xero.
