Want to get up close and personal with a polished-up Porsche, beaming Beamer, magnificent Merc, or a kool Kombi?
If you want to check out some awesome cars and get your wiener fix at the same time, the annual German Auto Day is on again this Sunday 17 September, from 10am to 3pm at Pialligo Estate.
A joint initiative of the local Porsche, BMW, VW and Mercedes-Benz Clubs, in partnership with Pialligo Estate, the event celebrates the feats of German engineering on two wheels and four.
President of the BMW Car Club of the ACT and head organiser of the event Luke Wise said there will be plenty happening to keep the whole family interested.
“We’ve got kids entertainment as well as some of the most exclusive, luxurious and quirky motor vehicles to have ever rolled out of Germany from the 1950’s through to today,” he said.
“The German Auto Day has been a long standing event on the Canberra motoring enthusiasts calendar and is extremely well attended, with owners of German made vehicles traveling from as far as Victoria and Brisbane to participate.
“Owners and like minded enthusiasts will be treated to an eclectic array of vehicles from marques like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen.
“In addition, there’ll be the chance to check out some of the lesser-known historic marques like NSU, Amphicar, Auto Union and who knows, maybe even a Goggomobil,” said Mr Wise.
It’s made possible through sponsorship by Shannon’s Insurance, a very well-known name in the world of specialty and vintage cars. Shannon’s events spokesperson Steven Farmer said they’re looking forward to another great day out.
“For many years Shannons has been a strong supporter of the German Auto Day and are delighted to be coming along and supporting the event once more,” said Mr Farmer.
“Even better to have local business climbing on board to help make it happen with Pialligo Estate offering their picturesque grounds as the perfect backdrop for the display, but also creating a menu featuring the traditional German Weisswurst specially made in-house for the event.”
Indeed, Pialligo Estate is putting on an impressive specialty menu that includes such inspired German favorites as the Weisswurst (white sausage) with Coleslaw and Schnitzel burger with Sauerkraut. There are cheeseburgers and bacon-and-egg rolls for the slightly less adventurous, as well as the usual impressive array of beers and wines to wash it all down as well.
With the weather forecasted to be a sunny 17 degrees, it should be ideal for a trip down your motoring memory lane.
I can think of wurst ways to spend a Sunday (*boom tish*).
