ACT Assembly starts streaming and podcasting, sort of

Thanks to Fiona for the heads-up, Wayne Berry has put up a little note that the Assembly is not only going to start streaming video, but also podcasting the Socratic wonder of the ACT’s question time debate.

It’s just a shame my totally up to date iMac can’t view the video format, and the audio isn’t in an RSS feed so is not actually, in any way, a podcast, just an online audio file.

But points for trying I suppose.

Can anyone actually see anything on that page other than Wayne’s message and a system requirement?

UPDATED: Silly me, you get to the video by clicking on Wayne’s head, then knowing you’re not in “ACTGOV” whatever the hell that is. Intuitive much.

“The material shall not be used for:
the purpose of satire or ridicule; “

Well thats me out then…

have these softheads heard of ‘standards’.

if its a podcast – then it should be at least an mp3 and at least playable on an ipod, or a mac.

as soon as idiot outsourced it depts rid themslves of this troublesome menace (windows) and go to non-proprietary hardware/software the better.

But not a definition widely known outside of the ACT Government.

It worked for me™.

If you’re in the ACTGOV domain you can connect to a machine inside the ACT Government’s intranet. If you’re outside the ACTGOV domain, you connect to a world-accessible machine.

Thanks futto, it bugged the hell out of me too.

wiki link

They should read it.

im not normally a definition nazi, but this just shits me as its embarassing.

Bugger me, of course you click the speaker’s face to stream the assembly!

Interesting they have a separate acceptance for people in the ACT Government.

Sadly I can’t legally access it for the purposes of satire or ridicule which, aside from violating my fair use rights, makes it almost entirely useless to reasonable human beings.

There is a ‘click to start’ under the Speaker’s mug shot (this was not apparent at first) – leading to an ‘accept’ page – which in turn leads to Windoze MP showing a lovely shot of the (empty) Assembly.

FYI I am running Safari on OSX 10.4.8.

I enjoyed this a little too much. Seems the MP3 is embedded in the page that they (eventually) link to: (removed for readability) embed src=”060921.mp3″ type=”audio/wav” hidden=”true” autostart=”true”. Didnt work on my XP/IE combo, but all things fun are blocked on my work connection so you never know.

Seriously though, if you’re going to do it, why approach it in such an odd manner?
