The Canberra Times is reporting that the ACT Chamber of Commerce is seeking new ways to avoid paying market rates for skilled workers.

the ACT Chamber of Commerce, in co-operation with a number of embassies in the city, the Department of Immigration and the ACT Government, is hoping to begin bringing skilled workers from Europe to the ACT as soon as next month to try to balance some of the labour demand.

Lovely to see Labour and Capital combining to screw the proletariat.

I can’t say I’m a fan of awards.

This move is about holding wages down rather than letting the market determine what’s a fair wage.

A fair wage for these skilled workers being higher than either the unions or the employer groups would like.

jb – nice piece of word twisting.

can you provide evidence to support your assertion that below award rates will be paid to these workers ?
