ACT Election advertising - grafitti material ?

As more and more of the road side billboards are poking up everywhere, the one thing that they all have in common is an image of the candidate smiling obscenely at the camera.

I can’t help but they are thinking about getting their snouts into the trough as soon as possible as they posed for the photo.

It seems there are not as many posters up of sitting members. I still question whether such wankish posters would ever make someone think to vote for the wanker.

Question – would it be against the law to deface these works of art which are all on public land?

I have not ever condoned grafitti but jeepers, these things would have to be tempting targets!

All the labor signs have a very vey small ALP logo, I had to look very carefully, I thought they must all be independents.

Is the labor bran really on the nose in Canberra?

With such a huge public service Labor vote and then the beautiful people voting Green/labor I would have thought you should be proud to be a Labor candidate here.

I would have thought it was the opposite, I have spoken with a number of people who dislike the government but will vote Labor again due to the woeful lack of alternatives.

Still, it is rather odd that the Labor candidates seem to want to disassociate themselves with the Labor brand, while the Libs, who certainly don’t have much of a chance given the feds wanting to make drastic cuts to the APS (so does Labor, but we don’t mention that…) seem to emblazon their logo over everything.

I like the targeted marketing approach, Matthew Watts, a rather geeky looking Lib candidate, has a poster in the window of Dees Comics in Belco. Looks like a regular.

The faces are so big and the names are so small, and Labor candidates seem to use any colour but official ALP colours (the ALP candidates in Ginninderra seem to like orange).

All we need is big coloured boxes with big faces on our ballot sheets.

The first part of this sounds just like Doctor Seuss!

With their faces so big and their names oh so small,
there was no-one to vote for, no, no-one at all.
Some they used orange and some they used black;
I’d much rather cast votes for The Cat in the Hat.

i sat there with sally,
we sat there, we two,
and we voted for no-one
– especially not you.

actually, thing one and thing two would do a grand job in the corridors of power, bumping their kites.

They always remind me of those images of dictators you see in the movies… is it a problem that our politicians model their advertising on Saddam Hussein’s?

Is it just me, or are those posters notable for the lack of any mention of the party for which the person’s standing?

It’d be fun to label them all Pirate Party. 🙂

The Indian in Belco . Is his last name for real.

Ruin it for them? Undoing all that photo shopping is doing them a favour, no one would recognise them in real life if we didn’t add back in the devil horns.

Is it legal for me to put pictures of myself all over town? I’ve been finding online dating a little slow, I need to increase my profile visibility. leaving a few thousand glossy mug shots scattered about ought to help me make an impression right?

Pretty much this. Why exactly are these halfwits allowed to graffiti and litter all over town? More than likely using a chunk of our tax dollars to do so.
I say deface them all. Maybe this will keep me amused for a hour this weekend.

I can’t get them elected, but I can leave them looking like complete and utter members before the day is out.

🙂

There’s one on the corner near the Rose Cottage Inn and every time I’m driving home late at night my headlights half hit the big white face as I go round the roundabout. It freaks me out every bloody time!

When I see the one of Val Jeffrey, it makes me wonder wtf the Libs are up to. However, I would not condone de-facing them. Someone paid money to get them printed and they are allowed. Imagine if someone came to your work and graffiti’d or made useless merchandise or tools etc. You may not buy into local politics, but no need to ruin it for them though. At least thy re having a go, unlike many.

It certainly says quite a lot about the candidates ego and environmental stance that they would print out hundreds of pictures of themselves and then litter them all over town. Usually they have no policy or information on the picture, as if we should all make our political decisions based solely on their haircut and teeth whitening.

Oh they are wearing a suit and smiling? I -must- be able to trust them with controlling my life.

I for one prefer repositioning the mug shots next to local eyesores and bugbears, so we all know who to blame.

Eh, doesn’t bother me. A bit of colour on the drive to work. None jump out as particularly annoying yet.

Sounds like mad fun. i should get myself a pack of Sharpies and spend the arvo drawing eye-patches and missing teeth on the prospective candidates. I can’t get them elected, but I can leave them looking like complete and utter members before the day is out.
