Katy Gallagher is celebrating a decision by the full bench of the Federal Court validating our water abstraction charge (WAC) and the utilities network facilities tax (UNFT).

This in particular means we can charge Queanbeyan for the water they take out of our system.

guess what…………everyone in the ACT pays exactly the same charge. If Queanbeyan City Council had won then ACT residents would not be paying for the highest water charges in Australia.

My spies tell me that Queanbeyan City Council will be going to the High Court to challenge this decision. Watch this space.

lovely, and three days later it’s now appeared on my monthly internet bill. Not happy Jan.

Was not the GST supposed to rid us of these bullshit levies and taxes?

Not likely… there’s a small matter of Commonwealth legislation to consider…

i.e. the Canberra Water Supply (Googong Dam) Act 1974

I guess the good people of Queanbeyan could now choose to disconnect Googong Dam from the ACT water grid.
