ACT Government hurts my ears

The persistent electronic percussion in the ACT Government’s music-on-hold hurts my ears.

I’ve asked them to change the “music,” but my complaint appears to have fallen on deaf ears!

Is this problem particular to my ears (and to both brands of my home phone handsets), or do other people have the same experience.

If you haven’t experienced it, phone Canberra Connect on 13 2281 and wait. If an operator answers before the “music” starts, simply ask to be placed on hold for a minute. On second thoughts, ten seconds should be more than enough. Then tell them how much you appreciate their music – or don’t.

I understand the hold music is the standard fare for the territory government system. I’ve encountered it from a variety of other large corporations, and agree it’s pretty average!

I’m sure if Cooma had a population of more than 6 people you would appreciate such a service.

In NSW we have this super awesome invention called the internet. It allows us to do all of the things listed above without having to ever lift up a phone and listen to apalling hold music. Even the Cooma council has it’s services based online – And there’s only 4 people in Cooma; I hire three to keep the rabbits out.

I guess it’s a Canberra thing, y’all city folk need everything central so you don’t get too confused. But I still don’t understand why you would have to call them. You can obviously use the internet.

Its not so much an ACT thing but rather a service provider on behalf of the ACT government. They basically act as the first point of contact for information and payment services.

There are literally hundreds and hundreds of reasons why you would contact them. From dog registration, car registration, road closures, bus timetables, rates notices, parking/traffic infringements, garbage collection services etc etc etc etc.

I’m sure if Cooma had a population of more than 6 people you would appreciate such a service.

I am unsure why you would need to call them, or is this just an ACT thing?

I would have to agree, it isn’t the most pleasant thing to listen to.

That being said, the staff at Canberra Connect certainly know their stuff. It sure beats ringing telstra for information!
