ACT Labor planning how to better smite their enemies

ACT Labor has returned from the room of mirrors post election and resolved to stop their enemies ever getting close to victory again:

As well as numerous public resources, this report is mainly constructed from interviews with local campaigners and the 47 submissions made from ACT Labor members and local party units. The recommendations detailed in this report were approved by the ACT Labor Administrative Committee in December 2012 and are in five broad categories, covering campaign strategy, ACT Labor policy, campaign commencement, as well as candidate and local team support. The recommendations include:

— ACT Labor rule changes to reflect best practice in campaign team structures
— Regular reviews of community engagement and policy development
— Continuing the successful practice of earlier preselections where possible
— Providing candidates with higher-visibility materials
— Invest more in research on an effective response to negative campaigning by the ACT Liberals
— Provide more resources for candidate materials design and early voting
— Explore the further expansion and use of Social Media to engage with voters in real life
— Encourage a better understanding of Hare Clark and Robson Rotation
— Better coordination of volunteers
— Further investigate the electoral impact of third parties in Hare Clark
— Expect the worst from the Liberals, seek to amend and/or enforce relevant regulations

Provide candidates with higher-visibility materials. So, fluoro orange and yellow tradie suits for future Labor candidates. Sounds good to me. It will definitely make it easier to avoid them.

Send Ministers out to campaign instead of mooching off Katy’s preference flow and assuming your re-election is in the bag …

Yeah, I mean, it’s not like there’s any reason for negativity when you have a family friend of the Chief Minister fudging hospital figures – and not even being friggin’ clever about it to boot!

There is nothing wrong with the figures.

Katy said so.

Katy said there’s nothing wrong with Ms Jackson’s figure? 🙂

About what I expected from ACT Labor.

I’m quite amused by the contradiction where the linked page of the ACT Labor website refers to the report as a “public report”, but it seems that the only way to get a copy is to be a member of ACT Labor.

I suppose it’s possible that they believe that the public consists entirely of Labor Party members, but then the question would have to be “why did more than half of our members vote against us?”, and I don’t think they’ve addressed that one in the report.

So, of the 11 recommendations, only one vaguely refers to actually improving the job they do.

We don’t pay these fools to beat the opposition. We elect them to run the city.

Here, let me suggest one:

Develop a comprehensive portfolio of policies and strategies that demonstrate long term vision and leadership.

I know, I know – it’s a bit out there, but it just may work.

expect negativity from the liberals , who’d a thought?

– Participate in spontaneous community events, such as Lego builds, in a fully co-ordinated manner

“Expect the worst from the Liberals, seek to amend and/or enforce relevant regulations”

Labor party enforcing regs? I thought it was the public service that did that! Surely they wouldn’t be politicising the public service…? Just shows how one needs to expect the worst from a Labor govt 😉
