ACT Liberal Party in disarray

Insiders at the ACT Liberal Party have confirmed that over 200 members have jumped ship and resigned since the election and new management team.

    — The have just about closed their office – it is only open from 9 – 12 daily with a part time administrator
    — They can’t afford a Divisional Director.
    — They have 2 Units for rent and can’t seem to rent them, it’s only been 10 months.
    — They are in a financial hole to the tune of over $80,000 only since their President Winnifred Rosser over spent at the election.
    — They have done nothing to recruit new members except for Young Liberals to stack branches for Zed and his right wingers.

There are only two people to blame and thats their President Winnifred Rosser and Zed. Surley they should consider standing down and getting someone to take over that can actually save the Libs.

Zed was attacking the Labour Party machine recently because they couldn’t keep their house in order. He’s kidding isn’t he. He then can’t answer questions on how he will fix the ACT economy with the City News – not surprisingly had to leave the press conference. He can’t even save his own party, how will he save the ACT.

The Libs are having their Senate pre-selection soon – watch this space to see who runs against Humphries – The right are gearing up for a complete take over. It will shock you who might stand against him.

This is the Party that wants to run the ACT.

Stanhope asleep and Katy working part time are better than Zed and his cronies working day and night..

There is a new alternative for the fiscally responsible but socially progressive person in Canberra. The Liberal Democratic Party will be running candidates in all seats in the next ACT election. Further information about the LDP can be found here: http://www.ldp.org.au/
The LDP is currently having a membership drive in the ACT.

Unlike marynow, the source1980, YapYapYap, muFasa etc my name is ‘George’ and my friends who visit this site are very aware who I am.

Well that certainly covers it George; others are hiding their identites but you’re the only non-ACT resident named George.

Yap – you seem so jaded by politicians you’re just spewing rhetoric around without recourse to facts. I know steve personally as he’s been a family friend for over 30 years, so don’t tell me he doesn’t care. He does, and more than you could ever know. Steve has done a lot for disabled people in the ACT, despite being in opposition, and continues to do so without feeling the need to issue Press Release after Press Release advertising his efforts on their behalf. How unpolitical of him! And before you start on the Lib’s performance in the last Government, check your facts. Their Health Minister (who achieved nothing under Carnell) wasn’t even a Liberal.

“Facts” – you’re full of it. Moore, and I won’t defend him for a moment, didn’t frame the Liberals’ budgets – and didn’t hack into all the other programs I mentioned. As to your mate, I happen to know him too. Perhaps you need 30 years to find his good points; I haven’t over the last 7 or 8 years.

You’re obviously Labor, and that great, but don’t demand names and No’s until you give yours first. For the record, I’m not a member of any party (yet) but I am going to join next month. My family have been Labor supporters for several generations, as you would expect from dock workers and active trade unionists.

I’m not a member of any political party, although I’ll readily concede my one-eyed views are very anti-Tory Nor was I the one to challenge someone for not identifying their true identity – I simply pointed out the hypocracy of George’s demand that others not hide under the cloak of annonimity.

I don’t have to name and shame – by their own posts, marynow and thesource1980 have identified who they are. The Canberra Liberal Party leadership are also aware who they are.

Unlike marynow, the source1980, YapYapYap, muFasa etc my name is ‘George’ and my friends who visit this site are very aware who I am.

I am not a Liberal, nor do I live in the ACT but I support Zed and his team and the Canberra Liberals – unlike marynow and thesource1980 who are Liberals and have spat the dummy because they have lost all respected in the Party.

Hey George did you crawl back under your rock. Gutless is exactly what you are. Maybe i got it right when i said you are writing both sides of the story.

… especially the new kids on the block – Steve, Alistair and Jeremy.

Steve has been wonderful to me.

He didn’t have to go to this trouble in the middle of managing several shadow portfolios. He just cared and wanted to help.

There could be a lot worse people than that in the assembly.

Gran, he isn’t ‘managing’ anything – he’s in opposition. ie sitting around praying for constituents to contact him. Of course he’s happy to see you and promise you the world.

Wait til he’s in Government, and cutting services to the disabled (“Labor’s budget black hole” will be the excuse). Look back to when those grubs were last in office – cuts to health, education, disability service, child protection – oh, and uber-grub Carnell painting the grass green and misappropriating public monies to cover the cost.

If you’re concerned about the provision of human services, talk to the Government or if you don’t trust them, talk to the Greens – at least their concerns are genuine.

Yap: “if you don’t trust them, talk to the Greens – at least their concerns are genuine.”

Please. if their concerns were genuine, they wouldn’t have signed off the agreement to prevent a no confidence motion being made against stanhope. If they were really concerned about the actions of the ALP, wouldn’t they have thrown their support behind the libs? re Steve Doszpot, some of us have dealt with him in his professional career in the ICT industry, and if he is able to provide half of the quality to the people of the ACT that he has in the past in his executive roles, I would be very happy to see the results.

As for the Gov’t. If you’re so proud of their record go to Calvary and ask to speak to the lady who’s been living there for 2 years while waiting for the Gov’t to get their act together, or families with special needs assistance who simply can’t get the help they need. If the Gov’t was doing the job it should be, nobody would have to contact Steve Doszpot or anybody else to get some action.

BTW: the labor Gov’t as it currently stands is a house of cards about to come tumbling down. Word is Hargreaves is thinking about hanging up his boots, but if he does that then Barr loses factional support in the party room he needs to become the next Head of Labor and Katie gets a free kick.

Now I say this with no great please as I’m aware Barr is a good bloke. I’ve also met Jon Stanhope socially on several occassion’s and Corbell professionally. He seems a very nice guy and will say he has a great personal care in the welfare of victims of crime. I’ve also met Amanda Bresnan and Meredeth Hunter and again, they seem like very good people. In short, politics isn’t about hating individuals or a party based on their ideology, it’s about selecting people you think will do best for the broader community.

You’re obviously Labor, and that great, but don’t demand names and No’s until you give yours first. For the record, I’m not a member of any party (yet) but I am going to join next month. Why do you care so much anyway? You’re practically frothing at the mouth.

He’s not promising me anything YapYapYap, and I am talking to the Greens. Stop patronising me. I’m not stupid, and I don’t need to be told how to think by you.

George I agree with muFasa, why don’t you name him. A bit of research says that the Lib Management Team only changed by three people so have the guts to name who you think it is. You can even have a guess and its a 33% chance.

We all know who you are, friend of the tortured Dwarf and the uber young liberal, didn’t you work for a pollie before a small indescetion relating to a misuse of computers and email. (nothings really changed has it) Life’s a bit of a lemon eh George.

Seems like you have a grudge to bear. Maybe you wrote the original article so that you can perpetuate this factional crap.

I think your meds have worn off. Say hi to everyone in neverneverland.

George – the only gutless thing here is that you don’t disclose who you are – pot calling the kettle black really…

If you want to hold your head up high and make the comments you have then disclose your identity and don’t post under “an alias”.

And furthermore – if you know who it is, why don’t you take the proof to your party and get rid of them?

Someone, actually I should say a well know disgruntled former member of the Liberals Management team – who can’t hold down a position in the Liberal Party, comes in here under an alias, and dumps on his party, and later tries to say don’t take it too “serious”. He also throws in the oldest decoy known…”I vote Labor, but have some close ‘friends’ that are Libs.” What a gutless tool!

The Liberal & Labour Parties are just like everyone who is a member of RiotACT was also a member of the RiotACT Political Party ie chaos.

Who really cares if someone wants to screw everyone to become party leader or the quiet one becomes treasurer? As long as they run the ACT in the correct way. But at the moment the current ACT Labour Party is doing a poor job at running the ACT correctly & because people hate change, they will always get in power. Or maybe because people remember a certain Chief Minster that was from a different party…….

But I will say that I believe that Simon Corbell is undervalued, he has the best idea about running his departments, but Stanhopey punishes him because of the media attention (good & bad) he brings.

thesource198010:09 pm 22 Jun 09

OK some of the smater readers understood whatI was getting at, the rest not so smart.

I will say it slowly for you.

THIS IS THE PARTY THAT WANTS TO GOVERN THE ACT.

THEY CAN’T EVEN RUN THEIR OWN PARTY OR ORGANISATION.

Great way to take away from what is being discussed is to crap on about factions etc and that I am from one or the other – hate to dissappoint I vote labor, but have some close friends that are Libs. They are always trying to get me to vote for them, they are great fun at a party to pull the piss out of, especially when their party runs like this.

By the way I am Female and 26 or I could be male and 52 – who cares it’s just a comment, stirred a few feathers though didn’t it.

YAPYAPYAP had it right back on your meds George – you are far to serious.

IMHO, how the hell did this bunch expect to get into power, either via direct votes or an alignment with the greens? I hate to say it, but this kind of behaviour is why they aren’t the “ruling” party. Not just the OP, but the bickering on this site between obvious factions of the same party.

Don’t get me wrong, i voted Labor (Fed) and liberal (local)based on the expectations I had for each arena.

But when will the ACT liberal party just grow up and take on the job of election to the top job here with professionalism?

What’s the difference between the Liberals and Labor? very little by the looks. Aren’t the Labor party having an internal scrag fight about their precious pokies at the moment?

Anyway, I don’t see what this sort of thing has to do with anything when it has absolutely nothing to do with the politics of the ACT nor is it having an effect on the running of the territory.

Surely Malcolm Turnbull could throw them a few bucks just to end the embarassment?

Same old same old from the same irrelevant idiots.
I find some of the comments extremely funny – back on your meds George. Where is George from?

Seems the factional hacks are the only ones that get on to this forum. I have one question for them, are you always this stupid or are you just making a special effort today? Maybe they should get a room somewhere and beat some neurons together. Then and only then shall we get some interesting politics in this town.

By the sound of it the Young Libs should learn from their parent’s mistakes and try using some birth control.

So what if the Libs can’t organise a brothel for a bunch of sailors. Give the Gay Mardi Gras guys a call and they can help you out running a business.

YapYapYap said :

… especially the new kids on the block – Steve, Alistair and Jeremy.

Steve has been wonderful to me. I went to see him a while back with a group of my friends, including BerraBoy, to discuss our concerns in relation to our kids with disabilities. Not only has he been supportive and understanding, as have the Greens and Andrew Barr, he has been personally trying to organise assistance for me to get a wheelchair for my daughter which she has been needing for four years now.

He didn’t have to go to this trouble in the middle of managing several shadow portfolios. He just cared and wanted to help.

There could be a lot worse people than that in the assembly.

I am personally very impressed with the caring and commitment of many of the MLAs I have met. They work hard and probably deserve to be bagged out a lot less than the people doing the bagging.

I will declare that i voted labor at the last election but have voted lib in the past when there was someone to vote for.

Whatever the reason for the post. Some of these details are easy to check.

There office hours – just give them a call and the answer machine confirms that.
They can’t afford a Divisional Director – this was on the TV news last week
They have 2 Units for rent and can’t seem to rent them, it’s only been 10 months – they have been advertising this in their weekly newsletter.

They are in a financial hole to the tune of over $80,000 only since their President Winnifred Rosser over spent at the election. – Ok so this one is harder to check and would be an insider on the current committee. How would the old members of the committee know seeing they are not there anymore duh George.

They have done nothing to recruit new members except for Young Liberals to stack branches for Zed and his right wingers. – JB correct branch stack = membership drive although if they have lost 200 odd members its not working.

I find it amazing that the libs are accussng their own of posting this.
Who in their right mind has time for the conspiracy theories that some posters have come up with.

They obviously don’t want to win government.

I will not be voting for this rag tag mob, if they can’t manage their party how can they manage the ACT.

whilst this probably is a disgruntled Liberal party member – it’s a pretty poor indictment on the party to have someone from within going after them this hard.

BTW – if the Libs have lost that many members, won’t they fall under party status like the Democrats did a little while ago??

George said :

Personally I believe Zed and his team are performing well – especially the new kids on the block – Steve, Alistair and Jeremy.

Time to get back on the meds George.

I doubt that Labor is behind this post. More likely a disgruntled Liberal Party member. Probably one of those who have been booted off the management committee, for their poor performance. They are known to dislike Zed, Rosser and the Young Libs and are prepared to drag the party into disrepute for their own selfish means.

I would suggest that there is information here that only someone close to management would know. I am sure Zed and co know who these misfits are.

Personally I believe Zed and his team are performing well – especially the new kids on the block – Steve, Alistair and Jeremy. The party could be in better shape but as others have pointed out, they have a narrow resource base. The activities of the Jim Murphy Business Club have not been helpful either.

Anyone under the age of 40 who spends their time at political party meetings needs to get a life and better friends. Actually make that anyone full stop.

As long as you realise Ms Ellis is in Adelaideand not the ACT. Are you clear on this? Yes?! OK, Carry on….

Both parties have cocky little brats leading them with a few brown nosers following cloely behind.

To put it in simpler terms, back in my Kambah High days there was a battle between East & West Kambah. Each side saying they were better, but in the long run both sides are just one suburb.

But I will say that the Young Liberal & Labour Whatzamacallsits are a lot worse then the older members. That is just what I’ve noticed from their policy releases.

Very true, although minus the future political leader bit – I just enjoy the ride. Among others I did make a major error in my earlier comment – should have said ‘member of’ not ‘member for’ in the first line. Was a very casual post…I’m not much of a proof reader of online musings :-).

I saw that footage of Zed, what a shocker.

Regardless of all the other points in the original post, if the Liberals have actually lost 200 members in the 8 months since the election then something is seriously wrong. I can’t imagine they’d of had more than 5-600 to begin with. 200 would be a stampede.

“The ACT Fying Squad” If that doesn’t say it all, nothing will. What a pack of losers.

Canberra has and probably always will be a labor machine.

Canberra is a unionised town, which is why Labor will usually get in.

I’m a member for the Liberals and Young Liberals and all I can say is this is complete bollocks.

I commend you for declaring your political affiliations, I challenge “thesource1980” to declare who they are and that their political affiliation.

I also wonder if the post has anything to do with Stanhope taking another credibility hit lately, and is this his indirect mudslinging response?

To be honest, I skim read the post and the response after figuring out it hasn’t got much to do with anything.

Let’s see… 5 seconds of research tells me that ‘thesource1980’ is a Newbie with two threads to his/her name. And what are these threads, I hear you ask… well let me enlighten you, Grasshopper.

These two threads comprise this one and one titled ‘ANU Liberal Club up to old games’ from March this year. Both Threads begin with a statement that ‘thesources’ info comes from the inevitable ‘insider’.

Now, I’m no oracle on RA but I’ve not seen thesource1980 commenting in any other thread (can you enlighten us ion this point JB?).

I’m just starting to get the impression that thesource1908 is either;
– A labor stooge (I’d be sad, but not surprised if this was true),
– A troll with a particular political bent (in which case, Dude/dudette, get a life!); or
– the editor of the City News (‘insiderers’ indeed).

young liberals are pretty much as scum as you can get without chumming up with stormfront.org

I’m a member for the Liberals and Young Liberals and all I can say is this is complete bollocks.

– Its normal for office space to be empty during current conditions and hey it’s not exactly the sexiest office space around. There are loads of empty offices all over the ACT to choose from.

– BTW someone correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Winnifred generous in that she is donating expensive office space at Fyshwick (or at least during the last election)? I could be wrong…

– ACT Liberals have never had much money so why pay an administrator to man the office? Volunteers are hard to come by in non-election years. Not exactly a hot/exciting time to be hanging out at party headquarters. I did a bunch of volunteering over the election (as did loads of people) – even took three days of work. Plenty of people around because it was an election year. Its a quiet time now – get over it.

– lol @ $80k oh come on, get over it. $80k is pocket change in the scheme of things.

– YL brach stacks and right-wing take overs? NFI what this is about. I attend all YL meetings and a few regular branch ones and have never come across anything to support this. We just have normal meetings, drink beer and support the leader in as much as developing policy/letterboxing/handing out leaflets at canberra show/giving fake tattoos to children/etc. If you call the ACT Flying Squad (only thing I can think of) as a right-wring branch-stacking machine than you need to get a better source. Only thing getting stacked is people’s letterboxes with hand outs.

– Can’t afford a divisional director + running against Garry…
The Canberra Libs have never had much dosh. Its always been a stuggle. Canberra has and probably always will be a labor machine. Especially at the federal election I did a 12 our day at my polling booth (6-6) and their was only ever two libs there with the ALP having a constant army of 4-6 people. More people support and give dosh the labor party simple. They have clubs, unions, more volunteers, and hey they’re in government so of course the libs are going to struggle for a piece of that. As for not filling the Divisioal Director role – who cares? For now why spend the dosh and come closer to the next election someone will take it on anyway. This isn’t a big issue.

As for running against Garry of course people will fight hard for selection. I mean c’mon it’s a Senate seat. If you have the time, means and support to run why the hell wouldn’t you. It’s a political party. It’s competitive. This is so normal I don’t even know why it’s an issue. Hey I’d run if it was appropriate. BTW I did that 12 hours at the last election FOR GARRY. And I’d do it for whoever else was running for the Libs. I believe in the party – if you’re good enough to get through selection than that’s good enough for me.

Overall I probably shouldn’t have wasted this much of a Sunday replying but I’ll finish on this – its a quiet time in the ACT election cycle so support, money and whatever else is naturally going to be running low. I’m not volunteering at the moment or donating much dosh (except the odd $5 for the menzies fund) but as the next election comes close my blood will start pumping and its all on again.
Finally I reckon the ACT libs do EXTREMELY well and hold a lot of seats in the assembly considering the miniscule amount of support they get compared to ACT Labor. Good on ‘em.

Disarray is just their normal state, isn’t it?

“ACT Liberal Party in disarray” is a headline on par with “Dog bites man”.

I was about to write that the poster of this thread was bitter. Then I realised he/she must be deranged instead.
