ABC Online are reporting that Stefaniak has stood aside and Jacqui Burke has stepped aside, leaving the way for Zed Seselja and Brendan Smyth to rise to the positions of Opposition Leader and Deputy unopposed, as they were the only nominees.

Stefaniak claims he was not politely asked to go, and that it was entirely his own decision.

Jacqui Burke has remained quiet.

Discuss.

[ED – And Stanhope just can’t believe his luck. It will, however, be very interesting to see what the Big Z can do, he’s been very quiet through all the ructions]

Smyth is childlike. It just shows what garbage they have if the Liberals when someone like Smyth is recycled.

Thumper you can paypal me for giving you such a good laugh! Though about 12 months ago I had a similar reaction when someone suggested Howard would get his bony old a$$ kicked in Bennelong!

Ava – I don’t think the Greens will be the “new opposition” – nah I want them to be the new government.
Less than 12 months to go and given the way the imploding sliberals are losing traction on every political level at present, and it’s only going to get worse in the coming year.
The Greens are placed in a great position to take advantage of the changing political climate.
In the reps they nationally polled just under a million primary votes (7%), about the same as The Nationals, Family 1st Fundies & Democrats combined.
In the ACT they pulled in about 13% in the two seats and Kerrie Tucker pulled in a very healthy 21% on the first count in the Senate.
If the sliberals could poll that well at the moment they’d be happy!

Neocom thinks that the Greens will be the new opposition.

Got a problem with sliberals in your electorate?
Want an easy, no fuss way to get rid of them?
Vote Greens 1, Labor 2 then stick the sliberal last!

I met zed and zeds dead baby… Having him run a bookshop would be enough of a challenge. What a sad state of affairs in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

Its like Stanhope is paying monkeys to get elected for the Liberal Party – he keeps his job and everyone gets paid.

What a bunch of tossers the ACT Libs have become.

lol leahcim, that’s a good one.

oh and boof*ckinghoo cranky he closed the dragway :'( the thing is never going to take off and it’s not worth the money.

anyway, well about bloody time they got rid of Bill the bumbling idiot and Jacqui the moron with a REALLY annoying voice, i’d much rather vote for Zed, and vote them two out.

Anyone want to vote in Australia’s first legislative assembly with a majority of independent members?! neither party really deserve to govern.

When plans abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwx and y fail, move to Plan Zed.

What’s that German word that describes the guilt pleasure one get from seeing sombody else going down?

I don’t know, but there are a lot of movies on the internet and in Fyshwick for exactly that purpose.

Any party where Brendan Smyth holds a senior position is out the door, backwards.

This twerp is so in the pocket of big business that he virtually singlehandedly closed the Dragway to hand the land to his mate, Snow.

Who has done F*all with it.

I think I’d better leave it at that. He angers me.

Brendan Smyth. FFS! I thought we’d seen the end of him. 🙁

Schadenfreude.

Surely the headline “Better Zed than dead” was a gimme?

Careful Thumper, someone might think you’ve just defamed their character by suggesting they have a handbag fight. 🙂

….and not a knife in sight?

Does this mean that the ACT Liberals Christmas Party is going to be a ‘table for two’ affair?

No, no: it’s workchoices – it’s putting you under too much pressure!

Oh my stars and garters, I really ought to proofread my own posts before they get approved.

I write and proofread process doco most of the day, and then I go and write “Stefaniak has stood aside and Jacqui Burke has stepped aside”.

I blame solar flares.

Zed instead of being dead!
