Items and Topics that we will be discussing at this meeting include:

  1. the recent announcement by the ACT Government that they now consider Light Rail is a priority infrastructure project for the Territory “Stanhope lists light rail as ACT priority for Commonwealth infrastructure funding” (this was announced approximately a week after our last meeting)
  2. the resolution brought down by the recent ALP ACT conference that supports light rail and their motion to undertake a cost benefit analysis in support of the ACT Government’s Infrastructure Australia bid
  3. how these announcements and changes will affect the campaigning tactics that ACT Light Rail will be using in the lead up to the 18 October ACT Election
  4. given the community support and continued media coverage that we have had with driving the Light Rail issue up to now, an update on representations received from industry offering a significant sum of money to be used for electoral advertising to “thump” any parties and candidates that are not supportive of light rail at the upcoming election. Obviously now that Light Rail is officially on the agenda this is awakening wider serious industry interest.

Musty men with white beards hanging around kids. Mmmm nice image.

As one of the white bearded, musty jumpered (geez, it dosn’t smell that bad) ones, who attended Malkara for the umpety time, I consider light rail in this town to be a pipe dream, massively uneconomic, and going to meetings to discuss it a waste of good drinking time.

Will you ever be convinced it will never be a good idea?

Light rail doesn’t have to be a money maker to be a success.

It just has to be effective, and cheaper then busses or building more roads. I think it’s a good idea.

This weekend just gone te Malkara Special School had its annual display of toy trains for enthusiasts. There were lots of old men with white beards in musty jumpers and a very high vote there for light rail.

If the economics were so crash hot for light rail, the private sector would be kicking in the door to invest. I suspect that the old light rail that is affordable in Canberra is the type that the advocates of light rail play with in the privacy of their homes.

Won’t happen so stop wasting your time. Toot toot!

Light rail proponent = no grasp on reality who drives an old Datsun.

wow I may even go. When are you going to hold meetings in Weston Creek/Woden/Tuggeranong? Or you just Gungahlin/Belconnen centric?
