ACT Parks and Conservation has launched a new virtual reality portal that allows people with disabilities to visit the ACT’s most scenic locations and also showcases them to the world.

The ParksVR project’s short virtual reality videos on YouTube showcases locations such as Namadgi National Park and Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, with rangers guiding them through activities

Environment Minister Mick Gentleman said the project contributed to digital inclusion and also boosted local tourism by showcasing the ACT to people who are thinking about visiting Canberra from other parts of Australia and across the globe.

“You can take a kayak ride on the Murrumbidgee River or head out on a mountain bike adventure in the Canberra Nature Park,” Mr Gentleman said.

“Get into the koala enclosure at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and learn about these iconic Australian animals or walk up Booroomba rocks and check out the spectacular views.”

ParksVR also provided an educational opportunity to engage with culturally and environmentally sensitive sites.

See it all on the ParksVR YouTube.

Does this VR experience show all the locked gates in every ACT reserve or park? Won’t be long before this is the only way you can get out and see the bush. 90% of it is already locked up in the ACT.
