ACT out of drought.

The Chiefly Stanhope informs us that the ACT is no longer in drought:

The drought declaration in rural ACT has been lifted after almost four years following better than expected weather conditions and rainfall, Chief Minister and Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Jon Stanhope, said today.

Drought declarations are lifted after two consecutive growing seasons with sufficient rainfall to provide fodder for the normal carrying capacity of rural land.

So when will we be able to wash our cars?

Um, isn’t it a bit early yet to declare the drought truly over?

I mean, shouldn’t Standope wait until we see how much rain we get over Spring, before he starts crowing?

If I have said it once (or twice), I will say it again. We don’t need water restrictions, as the dams should be fuller than they are, if it wasnt for the releasing of water for so called “environmental” purposes. It realy gives me the irrits to have to tow the line(doesnt mean I dont do it) on water conservation, when the cockies down stream along the Murrumbidgee (Hay Plains) have unrestricted access to river water for garden watering. Dont believe me, then go and see for yourself what the rest of the world is doing with water, including ours (ACT’s).

Aren’t you allowed to properly wash the Valiant with a sponge and bucket already?

Nope.

Also agree that Stage 1 restrictions should never be lifted. The real shame of it is they should be common sense.

Being permitted to wash cars once a month would be nice, or even once a fortnight if I’m being greedy.

I just wish there was already a Tennent Dam to collect some of this good rain we’ve been having . . .

At the moment you aren’t allowed to wash cars or even house windows. Or water your garden except after dark on alternate days.

Definitely time to relax the restrictions.

More often than not a car is the second most expensive purchase most of us make. For those of us that do like to look after our cars I think it would be nice if we were allowed to wash our cars properly once in a while, instead of being forced to make do with the commercial options around town and their shitty detergents/additives/godknowswhat.

I just wish Stanhope hadn’t opened his mouth again, no-one would have cared if he didn’t bring this matter up.

Keep on fighting the good fight on housing please Mr. Stanhope

I doubt we’ll ever get below level 1 restrictions, snd really, why should we? The issue going forward is how the additional infrastructure we will need will be delivered, to provide water for the thousands of extra people joining the region each year.

It would be nice if we had the freedom to make that decision for ourselves.

I honestly hope that the water restrictions will NOT be lifted. The Canberra area is a generally dry area and not to bank our water would be foolish. There are more important things than making sure a car gets washed every week.
