ACT Policing looking for Volunteers

ACT Policing is looking for people keen to join its Volunteers in Policing program. Sadly you don’t get given a badge and told to go fight crime, I already checked.

Still, you do get to call yourself a VIP so that’s cool.

I actually had no idea that the Police used volunteers to fill certain roles.

Volunteers perform a vital role in support of frontline police; including role-playing for police recruits, front office duties at police stations, consensual fingerprinting and a wide variety of diverse jobs that assist ACT Policing in serving our community.

Program Manager Sergeant Sharan Slater said the VIP Program was a great opportunity to have fun and help out in the community.

“The volunteer program is an ideal way to make a real contribution to ACT Policing, meet some new friends and be part of the inner workings of our local police service,” Sergeant Slater said.

“Our volunteers are part of our AFP family and are vital to our success.”

Doesn’t sound half bad. I run a wicked Dungeons and Dragons campaign, so “role-playing for police recruits” would be right up my alley.

If you are interested, email volunteers-in-policing@afp.gov.au for more info.

How much will you need people to roll to get protection from getting worked over in the cells?

Maybe if you repost that sentence again in English this time, we can make fun of you specifically, instead of just generally.

If you need it explained, its not worth explaining it to you.

I believe you. Although I will have to take your word for it, in absence of having it translated to English for us.

*sigh*

D&D… you roll a dice for attributes/stats, actions etc. “Roll for inititive!” etc.

Ok – all of those who are nodding-as-if-it-all-makes-sense-now – form a queue to the left. Thank you.

Also, Brachium, putting the tag ‘awful joke’ on one of your stories might be seen as superfluous.

hahaha, yeah i agree….the tag does taint it.

but, i have to do it…as Homer says “did you know that so called volunteers don’t even get paid?”

Consensual fingerprinting sounds intriguing. Do you get a video to keep or anything?

I heard a chap who was himself a police volunteer on the radio today. Made me laugh as he reminded me of ‘Bookman’ from the Seinfeld episode set in the library. Very serious.

initiative?

That’s the one. It was typed quickly, I apologise for the serious transgression.

You should have been soundly tasered by a police volunteer for that.

Thank some deity for that explanation. I’m an old fart, so I have never once in my life played D&D, and I had no idea what you were on about. I was thinking of rolling up in a ball to avoid a beating or something along those lines.

And personally, I prefer the new and slightly erotic spelling of “initiative” that Dilandach has contributed to the language. From now on I’m going to be using my ini-tit-ive as frequently as possible.

It does sound interesting, but agree with the “front office duties” comment! An unpaid receptionist/admin person? No thanks!

Ahhhh… I didn’t immediately pick that your post related specifically to the D&D reference. As such, without context, I had no idea what you were trying to say.

Perhaps you should try to express yourself more clearly.
In any case, rolling a double in Monopoly gets you out of jail. Don’t know what happens in the real world, never been locked up.

‘Role-playing for police recruits’ may just mean that you get tasered.

but front office duties at police stations? Isn’t that really the sort of thing they should be paying someone for?

probably.

I went to the police station to get something signed (needed a JP). While i was there, 5 people also had items signed by the JP, and there was one person who actually needed to see a police officer.

I know pretty much every organisation has volunteers doing something, and most of those make perfect sense to me, but front office duties at police stations? Isn’t that really the sort of thing they should be paying someone for?
