The ACT has recorded its second road fatality for 2023 after a single-vehicle crash in Watson this morning (21 February).

At about 2:45 am, the driver of a VW Passat wagon lost control for unknown reasons on Antill Street. The car hit a tree, incurring considerable front-end damage, before coming to rest in the front yard of a nearby residence on the other side of the road.

First responders arrived at the scene to find the driver – a 44-year-old man – already deceased. There were no other occupants of the vehicle.

Police are conducting an enquiry into the accident, including the owner of the vehicle, and would like to speak to any witnesses or anyone who may have dash-cam footage of Antill Street in Watson or Hackett around the time of the incident.

Similarly, any residents in the area with CCTV footage that captured the vehicle are urged to come forward.
